Katy Perry's brand new single "Roar"

Katy Perry's brand new single has leaked. It's called "Roar." Again, she proves that she really knows how to create a infectious pop song. I'm sure it'll blow up on the radio. Of course, some of the Gaga fans are calling it "generic" - but give me this any day over Gaga's pretentious BS. This fall is going to be fun with both of them releasing new albums. Very curious to see who will perform better on the charts.
Thoughts?

To be fair Gaga fans hate every other female in pop music, they will be wishing her dead soon like they did with Madonna, Beyonce, Rhianna and Taylor Swift. Little weirdos.
The song is catchy, especially the chorus

Posted: 8/11/13 at 10:57amI'm not crazy when Perry tries to do "inspiring" I prefer her more ding-a-ling stuff like "Friday Night" and "Teenage Dream". This sounds like watered down Pink, just like the insipid "Firework" sounded like watered down "Beautiful."

Posted: 8/11/13 at 12:42pmI enjoyed Firework when it first came out, but unfortunately, it became one of my biggest PTSD triggers I'm still working to overcome. As a result, I just avoided anything by Katy Perry for a long time out of sheer fear. I only recently just fell in love with Hot and Cold and listen to it a lot, but I am still not familiar with the Teenage Dream album at all. Roar isn't bad and it's a nice song to usher in a new Katy Perry stage for me personally.

I wasn't interested in Katy Perry until the Comedy Central autism telethon, her segment reduced me to tears, When it cut back to a barely in control Jon Stewart trying not to blubber I was glad to know I wasn't alone.
This song just sounds like a new product made with the same formula as the old product. Nothing wrong with that for people who like it. Exactly how much is she involved in the manufacturing of these songs? Does she write any or all of a tune?

Namo - I'm not a Katy Perry fanatic by any means, but have followed her career rather intently and I can tell you that she is VERY involved. She writes or co-writes every song (to an extent) and does coproduce each track. She's all about being hands on.
I recommend checking out her documentary, "Part Of Me." It's a little on the fluffier side but also incredibly revealing and I think it humanizes her. At the end, there is a sequence of events that I think we all could relate to and the cameras capture her raw emotion. It's fascinating to watch.

Posted: 8/11/13 at 1:49pmAfter the autism telethon she's aces on the humanity scale to me. but I'm not particularly interested in investing time to learn more about her. I just find it impossible to find credits for the songs anywhere on the net, and I was wondering how "to an extent" compares to the way Gaga writes her words and music.

The writing credit on her first two albums. As Liza said, all written or co-written by her. She received more writers and producers for her second album.
This new song sounds more in line with her album, which was before Gaga hit the scene. Then her record label pushed her more into a fluffy sound for "Teenage Dream." At heart, I think she's always been a cross between Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morisette.

Just looked it up to confirm, Namo. She has written or co-written all 24 songs on her commercially-released pop albums. We'll have to wait and see for the third album in October, but it should be the same.
Not too shabby!

This song was written solely by Katy, and I think it's one of her best. To me, this is who she really is.

^ Looove Thinking of You, I think it's her best song too, and the video it's amazing.
This song new song, however, does nothing for me. You can barely listen to her voice. ARTPOP all the way!

It's not a bad song, but the similarities between it and Sara Bareilles's last single (linked here) are... striking, let's say.

Considering that Katy tweeted the Bareilles' song a few months ago, it's being assumed that she got the rights to sample it. I don't think this is a BORN THIS WAY/EXPRESS YOURSELF situation.
