OOh..did anyone watch when Jacques D'Amboise was inducted? Both his kids danced...it was so great.
I've also had the honor to hear him speak at an arts conference....and it was just like this...like it's off the top of his head. He's the epitome of Left Brain learning!

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:20pmOK..I honestly can't remember....either right or left...I just know that at this particular arts conference the first speaker was Elliot Eisner, a music philosopher who writes about the importance arts education based on research and numbers and scientific data. Then the second speaker was Jacques D'Amboise, who just spoke with all this passion and from the heart.....and we joked that they were the perfect examples of the right brain/left brain learning styles!

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:27pmHe seems like the ideal person to do this kind of thing - spontaneous, obviously sincere, and well-spoken without being the least bit pompous. His New York accent is very charming. I thought the three speakers for Julie Harris, especially Helen Mirren, did a nice job too.

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:46pmIs it wrong that I just prefered Queen Latifah's version of "What's love got to do with it" better than Tina Turner's?

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:52pmI must say that I just gained respect for Beyonce.

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:55pmTina's Proud Mary is one of my all-time favorite songs and that was kick-ass.

Posted: 12/27/05 at 10:56pmYeah...that was actually quite respectable. Although, I did have to laugh at how George W seemed to perk up once Beyonce hit the stage!

Am I the only one who noted Oprah's 3XL Queensize Showgirl Double-DianaRoss-Vegas Lashes? She blinked and almost blew Julie out of her seat in the box!!
Which leads me to my next question. Has Miss Ross already been honored? She would love this such a thing ever so.

I was shocked at how much I loved Beyonce. I guess I shouldn't be that concerned about her in Dreamgirls.
I think Oprah is the best rhetorician alive.
I hated hated hated Queen Latifah's singing. She just doesn't have the voice for it. It's a ROCK song, not a jazz ditty. Listen to your band. They'll let you know.
Who can out-act Julie Harris. I adore the quote about if today was the last day on the world, I'd go to the theatre. Wonderful stuff!
Every time I watch this, I am reminded about how I missed Sondheim's. Oh, to have DVR back then.

Posted: 12/28/05 at 9:50amI confess that I turned it off after Julie's tribute.

Posted: 12/28/05 at 10:18amSo did I.....am I the only one who was a little dissapointed in her too-short tribute?

Posted: 12/28/05 at 11:09amI thought it was a lovely tribute (especially the Helen Mirren/Alec Baldwin/Mary-Louise Parker segment), but Kevin Spacey just makes my skin crawl. He comes across as so self-impressed and insincere (he always seems to be acting sincere instead of just being sincere).

Posted: 12/28/05 at 11:10amI thought Spacey did a beautiful job, and usually I feel about him the way you do, NCGuy.
