The 'little wimpy kid' is obviously not standing alone - and it's frequently those with the biggest chip on their shoulder who end up as 'ringleaders'. He wouldn't even attempt those actions without all of his 'posse' standing by.
Speaking of which, I'm with Borstal in my curiosity over what was said to or done with the filmer and other goaders.

Posted: 3/17/11 at 12:37pmWhile I get cheering the big guy on, I know that if something had gone seriously wrong in the slam down, HE'S the one that would have paid a serious price. No one would have considered it justified from a defense standpoint, and his life would have been corrupted from that point on.

Well fortunately in this situation that didn't happen.
So in this particular case (where nothing seriously bad happened) that video is, as Reg said, "very satisfying".

I really cannot think about the worst case scenario of the body slam when that bully mugs for the camera smiling that he caused the kid to snap.

I'm not so sure the big kid would have gotten into that much trouble if the slamdown had had more serious consequences. That video is pretty compelling evidence that the little bully was asking for it.
The little brat wouldn't get any of my sympathy either. Let him rot in a hospital bed for the rest of his godforsaken life -- just think of all the kids who'd be spared his bullying from now on.

I wonder. I think without the video, it would just be a matter of he said/he said. But as Roscoe says, it's clearly in response to an assault.
I suppose someone could argue that his response was excessive, but it seems clear that he couldn't match the little wiener with sparring; I doubt he's that fast. He did what he could do to stop the attack.
And yes, he could have walked away. But has that EVER worked?

"Let him rot in a hospital bed for the rest of his godforsaken life"
I won't allow myself to wish for a child - who is nothing more nor less than the product of his environment - to pay some horrific long-term price for his actions. What rage I have is directed at the institutions and culture that creates these attitudes and situations.
If I were to follow this up, I'd want to know what the school is doing to change their operation. I'd also require the parents to become officially involved pro-actively. The bully (AND the 'goaders') would not only have to serve some period of punnishment, but also participate in some program for awareness training and/or behavior modification. And I would STILL like to see some help pursued for the victim, to potentially help him better process the extreme negativity he's unfortunately had to endure.
My anger at all the situations like this, and the conditions that cause them, is given no satisfaction or abatement by watching this particular one escalate into something dangerous.

You make a lot of sense, Q, about a very emotional subject.
But I can't agree that a child is ONLY the product of his environment.

Not a problem for me. Charge the little f*cker with assault, and put the little f*cker on trial, and let the little f*cker's undoubtedly foul parents foot the legal bills. This nonsense has been way too tolerated for way too long.

Roscoe - there's a big difference between wishing for legal repurcussions and spending "the rest of his godforsaken life" in a hospital bed.
I wouldn't be averse to legal proceedings - although, I do think there's a distinction to be made between harassment and assault.

Posted: 3/17/11 at 3:55pmQ--true enough. Either way, legal repurcussion or permanent incapacity -- the little f*cker will have brought it entirely upon himself. His ongoing absence from the community will only be a blessing to those whose lives he would have made miserable.

Reg - I actually had to go back and watch it, because I didn't recall an actual punch being thrown and/or landed - but that does seem to be what happened. So, it would appear to be an assault situation, and self-defense would be considered, I'm sure.
For what it's worth, all indications are that people around the world are cheering loudly for this young man (who stood up for himself.) To the point that some in Australia are calling for it to be made illegal to distribute such videos. Seems they're uncomfortable having the culture put on display like that.

That how I usually feel about politicians and most lawyers

What I would love to have happen is for this video to be seen worldwide and for bullies to realize that they may very well get f*cked up--not to say mocked internationally--by the next person they choose to pick on.
Then I think the incident would have served a very worthwhile purpose.

I didn't want to say anything until I got all the information on this since, when I first watched the video, I was more worried about the size difference and that I didn't see what led up to the fight.
But now that I know the story, I think the kid is a hero.
Good for him.

I can't link to it at the moment, but the mother of the humiliated bully actually thinks that Casey owes her son an apology, because the video that he didn't take and didn't distribute has gone viral.
Wtf?
#49Kid Fights Back Against Bully, Gets Suspended
Posted: 3/20/11 at 5:36pmApparently an Australian newspaper originally reported that the bully's mom was demanding an apology. They issued a correction: She actually wants her son to apologize to his victim. Updated On: 3/20/11 at 05:36 PM
