Figures. I couldn't open your link so I did a search to find out about Heynes speaking out. The misinformation that I saw came in the search - on FOX news. Should have known.
Interesting the way you phrased that. The mother says she wants her son to apologize - does that mean he hasn't, yet? Or does she mean publicly. Sorry, my 'net access is very limited at the moment.

I found the story via Fox, as well. Assuming it's all true, though, the fault seems to lie with the Aussie paper, not Fox.
I'm not sure of the timing of the various statements from the mom, or what her son has said or not. I hope he does issue an apology, for his own sake. I can only imagine what sort of responses he's getting from the world.

Posted: 3/20/11 at 10:01pmI'm just glad to find out that Casey was not completely alone in this, seeing he had a loving older sister.

Ghostie, I'm pretty sure the bully hasn't apologized to the Casey yet b/c they haven't had any communication since they were suspended.
I wonder if once the bully sees that video if he will realize he was being a bully, or if he will consider his infamy a badge of honor.

Do bullies ever not realize they're being bullies? I mean, what else could he possibly think he was doing?
I just hope neither he nor any of the other sh!theads who were egging him on try to escalate the situation.

Now the smaller kid is claiming he was bullied first.
I wasn't there, but still . . . I don't buy it--not least because in the interview Richard continues to refer to his own actions as "picking on" and "bullying." And his story changes: at first he says Casey called him an idiot; later he seems to say Casey hit him first, but then never mentions it again.
What the video does do is remind us that he's a kid, too. A messed-up one, but not just a villain. I hope he's learned his lesson.

Posted: 3/22/11 at 9:21amI saw that video and tried to feel sorry for him but just can't. I'm basing this on the video. This kid punched Casey in the face. His friends were cheering him on. Difficult to believe this kid is the victim while his friends are cheering him on.On top of that, his Dad was apparently coaching him off to the side. He's sorry,....no wait....I'm not sorry......yeah I hit him.....but,...but,....no, I am the victim, not him! This kid is learning a lesson in front of the entire world and is being judged for being a bully. It is sad because he is only 12 and there are kids just as bad if not worse than him out there. Just unlucky for him his incident was caught on tape.Casey is being praised for kicking this bully's a$$ and he is doing a piss poor job at damage control in my opinion. Would have been smart to just keep quiet and let this thing fade out.

I agree, Romantico.
I can certainly conjure up a scenario where this kid has been bullied and decided to take it out on a kid who seems an even likelier victim. It's a classic story, in fact. But it's still bullying.
But as I said, I wasn't there. It's possible more facts will emerge. But I doubt it.

So the kid is a bully AND a liar.
You could see in the video that he was smiling when he was hitting Casey. That tells me he wasn't mad at all. It was a game to him.
