Posted: 10/12/05 at 1:59pmDowney is beloved in the film industry - why - I don't know - but he is - and was once an Oscar nominated , very talented actor - I hope he regains his stature - he really does have major industry pull behind him...

Posted: 11/11/05 at 1:54pmBumping this as I just saw it and against all odds, I really enjoyed it. It's not even remotely dark and it tries a titch too hard to be post modern and clever in places but I had a great time. Val Kilmer is high-larious, Robert Downey Jr is all kinds of brilliant and I laughed a lot. Brainless silly fun.

Good to know...

Posted: 11/11/05 at 1:56pmIsn't Kilmer "gay" in this film? How does he pull that one off?

He plays himself.
hee!

Posted: 11/18/05 at 3:06pmBumping this for all I'm worth cuz I saw this film last night. It is one of the best films I've seen this year by far. Val Kilmer really has the gift for bitchin' and Robert Downey Jnr, I believe, is one of the best screen actors of his generation. He makes everything look so natural - like he's not acting at all. Parts of this film were hysterical and I loved the opening credits. The nod to 'Sunset Blvd' is good, too. Downey Jnr's voice-over is terrific - exactly the right tone and style. Definitely one for the dvd collection. The film kept pulling in the surprises, too....Poppy, what about the discovery in the bathroom! Lovely Downey Jnr moment is when he stumbles into the audition. Also, he and Kilmer have great chemistry....I saw an interview with Kilmer recently where he said he'd only ever kissed two guys - and both on-screen. He said 'And all I'm saying is Colin Farrell - you gotta work on it'. Nuff said! Poppy, wasn't the scene with the dog hysterical...predictable, but hysterical.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 3:19pmYup, Pops, I didn't get the Colin Farrell thing either...I definitely saw NO kiss between them in 'Alexander'....surely we both couldn't have missed it. Anyway, there's absolutely no contest between Downey Jnr and Farrell...I could've saved Kilmer the trouble and told how who would be the best. How hot was that moment in the alley. That was no Kiss, Kiss....that was a K..I..S...S.

you dated Robert Downey Jr, Vinnie?
SPOILER
And was I the only one who still doesn't get how not wearing underwear means you're a mental hospital escapee?

Poppy - I don't remember that point being explained, either.
SPOILER
The point was only made in reference to the body being pulled out of the car in the lake....I just put it down to them suggesting that some mental hospital in-patients don't wear underwear...YIKES..I just escaped from a mental hospital.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 3:33pmI realise of course that it's not the kind of film one wastes time wondering about plot holes with. A bigger mystery is how Shannyn Sossamon and Dash Mihok got such prominent billing when they are barely in the film.

Hurray, pattifan! My best friend and I have been obsessed with Bob ever since college and he was on Ally McBeal. He's amazingly talented acting-wise, put out a great album (yes, I think it's great), and he's F--KING GORGEOUS! Phew, I'm going to go take a breather. I'm sounding about 13 years old.

I saw this tonight, and REALLY REALLY loved it.
I think it will definitely score an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and I definitely consider Downey's performance to be nomination-worthy as well. Go see it!
