I saw it last night and loved it. I don't really think it compares to 40 Year Old Virgin because it was much more than slapstick laughs. The movie had heart, even though some it was definitely stereotypical. Very fun movie.

I can't picture Hathaway in the role, though. As for why she'd be with him in the first place, it's clear the next morning that alcohol was the only reason that they slept together. In the end, I felt for him and was rooting for him. And this film made me love Paul Rudd even more than I thought possible.

According to Apatow,Hathaway dropped out of the film "because she didn’t want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth."

"The "Fag" in that scene mentioned above bit me hard. And of course, in Apatow's world none of his characters are REALLY bad, so he has the Black doorman (Who she would have really called a n*, but THAT is a BAD WORD) ACTUALLY THANK HER for her incredibly bitchy tirade and agrees, that yes his is a sad life and he is GLAD she pointed it out to him. Total and complete BULLSH*T."

Uh...he was being sarcastic.

I saw it last night and I liked it. Not as funny as The 40 Year Old Virgin, but enjoyable. And I would totally sex up Seth Rogen. :P

I saw it last night. I thought it was incredibly funny and it's the best movie I've seen so far this summer. As the movie went on Seth Rogen got cuter and cuter, but Katherine went into Izzie mode during a few scenes which was slightly annoying but it was still funny. Kristen Wiig was hysterical. She definitely got huge laughs out of that audience after almost any line she said.

I thought it was completely overrated. Is it funny? Yes...in spots. Is it "this generation's WHEN HARRY MET SALLY" as the New York Post claims? No.

It's a fun, entertaining, flawed diversion. I liked The 40 YEAR-OLD VIRGIN a lot better and I thought that even that movie wasn't as great as critics thought. It's not a laugh-a-minute movie; it offers a few good laughs and chuckles here and there but I've seen a hell of a lot more funny movies in the last ten or even five years. It's well written (I honestly think it just might nab a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination because of the buzz around it) and the cast is flawless but it's not as good as people have been claiming it to be. It's not a comic masterpiece. It's a good movie that overstays it's welcome (over two hours for ANY raunchy R-rated comedy is an overkill IMO--especially when there are about 20 pointless, unfunny minutes that could be cut and would have made the film all the more better). I'd give it a 'B'.

I agree it could be shorter. And I'd say a B rating is a pretty fair assessment. I'd personally give The 40 Year Old Virgin an A.

TheActr - funny, that's the exact same thing I said to my friend when we left the theatre.

DG: "the aging beauty (old as fvck)."

Dare I ask how old she is supposed to be?

Not sure. But the "old as f*ck" quote is what the bouncer says to her. She's too old to get in the club.

I don't know, but Leslie Mann is hot as f*ck. And Judd Apatow is lucky as f*ck.

I watched it thinking it would be dreadful and it wasn't as bad as I thought. (I had to get past the whole it's not Izzie thing.) The best thing about it was the shot at the end of Joanna Kerns with a baby that they used to show in the opening of Growing Pains.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Just watched it. Loved it. Not as funny as 40 year old virgin, but WAY smarter and mature than any other romantic comedy in recent memory.

I'm often out of step with the rest of the group/community/country, etc so I'm not surprised I felt this way, but eh. Maybe it would have been better if I'd seen it in a theater with other people, because at home I just thought most of the scenes that were supposed to comedic seemed mean-spirited and angry. And there were just so many long, extended stoner rants, even by characters that weren't stoned. The movie itself felt like a long, tangential stoner rant.

I just watched it a couple of days ago and was underwhelmed. Not sure what all the fuss was about. I didn't find it wildly hilarious. It had a couple of funny moments, but I found that I just didn't like the characters very much. It was slightly better than a typical SNL franchise flick, but far removed from the "romantic comedy" it has been buzzed up to be (Romantic? God, I hope that doesn't pass for romance these days). It felt like it aspired to be a modern sequel to Freaks and Geeks, but lacked the subtle wit and hints of maturity and sophistication. As for the comparison to 40 Year-Old Virgin, well, I guess it was about as good, but that's really not saying much.
