I live in LA now. :) I'm in a production of Timon of Athens with the Porters of Hellsgate in North Hollywood. We have two weekends left, if you're available to come. :) Tickets are $20 ($15 for AEA/Student/Senior). http://www.portersofhellsgate.com/
My favorite spot in LA to visit is the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine. It's free. It's a meditation spot, but not too preachy about religion (the SRF is a religious organization which I am not a part of, but there is symbology from the 6 major religions scattered about, so it doesn't feel like you're being indoctrinated into anything). Also, apparently some of Ghandi's ashes are buried there. http://www.lakeshrine.org/
Studio tours can be fun, although most of them are overpriced. I work on the Sony lot, and I know that one is $35.
My favorite speakeasy is called The Blind Barber (I believe there is one in NYC as well). It's in Culver City, near the corner of Washington and Overland. It just looks like a normal barbershop, but then if you walk through the barbershop through a door with a coatrack on it, you get into the bar. They have a whole menu of fancy grilled cheese sandwiches (which come with a dipping sauce, like tomato basil soup or garlic aioli), AMAZING kale salad with lemonade vinaigrette (you get to the bottom of that bowl SO FAST), and hot bartenders who really know their way around mixed drinks. They also have barrel-aged Manhattans, and other oddities. http://blindbarber.com/
My other favorite speakeasy-style bar is in Hollywood on Highland. It's called the Next Door Lounge. Instead of a sign, there's just a glowing key. There's a dapper doorman in a coat and tails who will ask you for a password (you can get one by RSVPing on their website or calling ahead), which is how he places you at the correct table. The staff is usually all in 20s-esque costume, and if you use a password, you can generally get a small appetizer (or two, if you have a group and are nice to them) on the house. I'm planning to be there tomorrow night (Thursday) for a Great Gatsby costume contest. http://www.nextdoorhollywood.com/web/

I've always wondered what that key sign was for!
I drive past it all of the time.
I really like it. You should check it out sometime!
We should have a BWW West Coast meet and greet!
Only you, Pookie.

.....
If you go Pasadena for the Playhouse, go to the HUNTINGTON GARDENS AND LIBRARY. Beautiful place.. Art, Gardens, Culture. Lovely.

There is ROSCOES (much easier to get a table there than the one in hollywood) nearby so you can go there to eat before the show and finish up at the playhouse.
Have a BLAST!!!!

The Dresden is good fun. Especially if you follow it up with a walk down the street to the House of Pies. I highly recommend the butterscotch cream pie. It blew my mind.
