LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is a wonderful musical that did deserve the awards it got in the wake of the AIDS crisis but SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE absolutely, without a shred of doubt DESERVED the Pulitzer. Sondheim is great, and so are other composers to, heck I enjoy a silly ALW sometimes on a good day.

If After Eight and others hate Sondheim, then why are you guys arguing about it? I don't think it's that hard to accept an opinion even if it ends up becoming a minority.

It deserved to get unanimous pans and to close after one performance.

And that's all it deserved.

And in a sane and a pure world, that's precisely what it would have gotten.

If we were in a sane and pure world, there would be no need to choose sides, because everyone would know what crap is and no one would try to pass it off as anything else.

@Namo, LA CAGE opened on Broadway during a time when the AIDS virus was RAMPANT and everyone was afraid of gays and their culture. For something like this musical to come around and show that there is nothing wrong with loving someone your own sex and that there is more to it than what paranoia tells us.

It showed two men as a married couple and they loved each other, in a time like 1983 during this period of time, this musical was a calm relief to everyone in all walks of life.

At least that's what I got out of it. PalJoey could explain it better than I can.
