Amid all the Katrina news, the Jerry Lewis Telethon is this weekend
Last year, he did not make as much money as the year before due to a natural disaster. This year, with a disaster of a greater magnitude, I think he really will come up on the short end again.
What a shame. It is a worthy cause & whether or not you like Lewis, you have to commend him for his work over the years for MDA

Jerry Lewis is using the first four hours and the last four hours of this year's telethon to be used for appeals for Katrina relief.
This is called co-operation. This is not selfish "I've got mine, tough luck if you don't have yours" typical American thinking.

I cannot support a man who thinks being in a wheelchair is the most undignified thing ever and there are much better organizations worth giving money to- even for this particular cause.

"Lord knows nothing's less dignified than sitting in a wheelchair." -Jerry Lewis
"...Pity. You don't want to be pitied because you're a cripple in a wheelchair, stay in your house." -Jerry Lewis
On thinking about using a wheelchair: "I [would] realize my life is half, so I must learn to do things halfway. I may be a full human being in my heart and soul. Yet I am still half a person." -Jerry Lewis

I am speechless about your last comments. This was not a bashing post, it was a real, IN YOUR FACE question. And it had an answer by NAMO. It didn't need your negativity to bring it down. No matter what you think..... Lewis may not have the best rep with everyone, but I believe he has helped a few (million) more people than you have.
Open your eyes.

Actually the first post was not a question at all, but a comment on how this years telethon will likely be less successful due to people spending their money elsewhere.
My eyes are very open and Im not the only disabled person who despises this man and the telethon- in fact there have been many protests and petitions regarding this telethon. The MDA has very good intentions- tho, sadly have a moronic spokesperson and I think theyre a little misguided in how they spend their money and yes there are better organizations out there. If you want to give money to them, go ahead, but I would do it on any day EXCEPT Labor Day.
The stoppity.org website seems to be down but this one has a bunch of info too... http://www.cripcommentary.com/LewisVsDisabilityRights.html
If you want to talk about my own disability and how I use it for the greater good, well then, thatd be an entirely different topic and my resume is longer than you think.

Can someone tell me on what channel this will be aired and when it begins?
I would love to see Raúl Esparza sing "Hushabye Mountain" but I'm not sure I want to watch the entire thing just for that.

In the NYC area it's on Ch.9, the UPN station. Here it starts at 9pm, but appears to start other times elsewhere across the country in some instances.
Some channels don't start with it until tomorrow morning.
If hurricance relief is in the first 4 hours and the last 4 hours, I'd stick a tape in, at least when it starts and just let it run. Maybe you can check in once in a while to see if you catch Raúl. If not, then fast forward through it later....and then you can watch him sing it repeatedly!
I don't want to sit there and watch it either.
