Believe it or not, the most recent McCain ad mixes images of Barack Obama with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. I kid you not.

Response from Obama campaign:
On a day when major news organizations across the country are taking Senator McCain to task for a steady stream of false, negative attacks, his campaign has launched yet another. Or, as some might say, ‘Oops! He did it again.’

Wow, McCain is a COMPLETE ass and is as bad as Bush. Obama better win.
The ad is basically saying, "No one likes Obama because he is too popular".
And who would want offshore drilling. It may slightly lower gas prices, but at what cost?
If they start drilling here, off the Jersey shore, We will lose much of the economy, for the highest business is tourism for us. Does McCain want us to suffer?
Oh wait, he does.

Let's not forget the last time Britney was linked with a politician. Here's her ad featuring Bob Dole, which obviously promoted Pepsi and subliminally promoted Viagra:

Don't they all say that (Democrats AND Republicans) and somewhere down the road they in fact have to raise taxes, but try to circumvent what they originally said.

Obama's campaign got their response ad out remarkably fast:

Papa - the question they used was leading...or better yet, misleading:
"to help resolve the energy crisis and make America less dependent on foreign oil."
Most folks are under the mistaken impression that lifting the ban on offshore drilling will have an immediate impact on supply, and thereby prices. The term 'energy crisis' implies that there is some sort of shortage of oil on the market, while the opposite is true. And there is no evidence that offshore drilling will have any short-term impact on foreign oil dependence. This is an education issue, just like the gas tax holiday was. Americans drove almost 10 BILLION fewer miles in May 2008 compared to May 2007, and guess what? Prices are coming down.

once again, you assume that people are too stupid to realize what's being asked of them. no wonder you like bammy, you two share a contempt for the american people.

Posted: 8/1/08 at 9:17amOn the contrary, unlike McCain, I think highly enough of Americans to believe that they are smart enough to see that offshore drilling will have no significant impact.

it will not only have a significant impact, it will have an immediate impact.
70% of the oil traded on the new york mercantile exchange is traded by speculators.
think about it.

So, are you acutally agreeing with McCain crediting the drop in oil prices to Bush lifting the presidential ban, and not the decrease in demand?
I get the speculator thing, but their concerns are primarily short term, and a little mid term. The possibility of adding maybe 1%-2% to supply a decade from now will not have an impact on speculating. Too many unknowns between now and then to gamble on it.

Posted: 8/1/08 at 12:36pmToo soon to know whether or not it's the right strategy. To my mind, Obama's lack of experience is a legit point of discussion, but making it personal clouds that point. We're no longer asking if his few years in the senate, Illinois legislature, and community activism are a suitable resume for a president. Now, we wondering if he's too arrogant, not patriotic enough, or too popular. I think one of the reasons McCain is so close right now is that he's John McCain, and a fair percentage of Americans have some comfort level with that. Having him state today that he is proud of that Britney/paris ad does nothing but further diminish him. I think it's a risky, desperate strategy. Like I said, too soon to know if it's the right one.
