The irrational hatred I feel for Michael and Ben is starting to overwhelm me. I want one or both to be mowed down by an angry, drunk dyke.

I do want to watch these shows -- alas, living with my parents, they walk in on the TV and see either a) two gay men, or b) two lesbian women...
The same goes for "The L Word"
It's very unfortunate that I cannot watch these shows, as my mother is so completely homophobic. I love her dearly, but she is. When I told her that my best friend was gay, her response was "That's lovely news Shira. DON'T come home with the same news". I guess I wasn't surprised by her response. She looks at my copy of "The Advocate" with confusion...

Posted: 6/13/05 at 3:38pmOh and I loved the HIV warning they had before last night. Oh and Brian freaking out that he got an STD. Like that's the first one he got.

Ted is pathetic, Michael is whiny, Melanie is a bitch, Ben is dull, Brian is an assh*le, Justin is codependent, Lindsay changes her mind, Hunter has bad hair, Debbie is pushy, Emmett is fun.
Same as last season.

BAD BAD HAIR!!!! My boyfriend kept saying, 'Hunter looks like Julia Roberts...NO...Hilary Swank...HE'S HILARY SWANK.'
It's such an awful show. And I watch it every f*cking week. But Michael and Ben make me hate gay people. Isn't this just so irrational???
I should just watch Seventh Heaven and leave it at that.

I too am bored so far with this, it's final season. Thou I could not stop laughing with Rosie O'Donnell falling in love with Debbie!!!
I can see Melanie & Lyndsey getting back together, as will Emmett & Ted. Brian's recent case of Syphyllis may make him re-think his open relationship stance, and he will fade into the sunset with Justin.

I have managed to not see a single episode of 7th Heavan. My bf and I watched all 4 seasons of QAF in a week, and it was oddly addicting, but this season is boooooooooring.
My mother (who I thankfully don't live with) outlawed the show when I used to come home from college. She saw a graphic scene and went off about it. I said to her: "Funny, you watch Sex and the City" which has equally graphic heterosexual sex scenes", and she shut up about it forever.

I also love Rosie's work last night.
I agree the issues need to be addressed, especially Syphylis but you have to admit, Brian being shocked about it and confused at the rate he gets it on is slightly laughable.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 3:50pmNice comeback - my mother can't hack ANY of it. How a Princeton-plaid skirt wearing woman (my mother) married a laid back pot smoker who wears sandals, I will never know.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 4:00pmI'm one episode behind you guys. (It airs tonight.) But I canNOT stand Michael this season. (Or, for that matter, any season.)

Posted: 6/13/05 at 4:03pmQAF is probably my favorite show on TV right now, despite the many flaws. I've learned to accept the show for what it is - bad dialogue and some over the top storylines, but it's a good concept and the acting is amazing. I do wish they'd leave poor Ted alone. All they do is torture that poor character. The custody battle they have going with Jenny Rebecca is pretty ridiculous. And it's about time Brian got an STD. I wish he'd just tell Justin he loves him and get it over with..

I have a feeling they're going to drag out the STD storyline over this entire season (similar to his cancer last season), and then end the show with him professing his love for Justin.
Am I the only one who really likes Ted? The patheticness is grating, but Scott Lowell is such a talented actor. They all are, but I find him especially compelling.
And when did Melanie become such a raging bitch?? I thought that was Lindsay's job! There's so few likable characters this year.

I'm gonna say it...the acting is AWFUL!!!! TERRIBLE.
OK...that's not fair...but watching them all struggle valiantly (and ultimately lose) with hideous dialogue is what I find compelling about this show. It's GENIUS!
And did no one else feel as though Rosie was still doing her RIDING THE BUS WITH MY SISTER act?

I think the acting is worse this season than previous ones, but maybe it's just because the scripts and dialogue have become more stupid. The lead characters are becoming more like caricatures of themselves now - Brian's still a swinger, Justin's still his lackey, Ted's still pathetic, Michael's still whiny, Emmett's still flamboyant, etc. etc. etc. But I think all of the actors succeed in being compelling to watch. (Although I'm extremely irritated with Michael and Ben's storyline now - I understand your desire to smack them.)
Oh, and I missed a couple of episodes -- what happened to Hunter??

SPOILER:
Hunter joined the swim team, and bled in the pool when he hit his head. The parents freaked out, the whole school thought Hunter was going to give them HIV, and they had a meeting with the parents where Micheal, BEn, and Hunter told them they were all ignorant. Hunter found out the girl he likes has a Boyfriend, and he refused to go to school and smoked pot with the hustlers. Ben and Michael found him and took him home.

I really don't think the acting is awful at all...it's mostly the awful dialogue they're being fed. But, really, look at Scott's performance during Ted's drug addict days. I thought he was amazing.
Speaking of which, Tiff, Thank you for liking Ted! I've always liked him from the beginning. My friend and I watch this show religiously (bought the DVDs and everything) and we're always getting into arguments about Ted - he HATES him. I feel bad for him. The writers need to pick on someone else. And Scott is an amazing actor - probably one of the best on the show.
God, I hope they don't drag this STD thing out all season. I'm already sick of it..

I liked the storyline with Hunter, Michael and Ben much more than this one with Jenny Rebecca. This all happens tonight??

Posted: 6/13/05 at 4:24pmI love Rosie and I have to admit that when I first heard she was going to be on the show I was mad because I assumed she wouldn't be able to contribute anything other than being her usual loud overbearing self in Debbie's outfits, but she really won me over. her performance was rather touching and her scene with her husband Darrel was very well acted. she really can be amazing when she works hard enough and this performance was heart wrenching. I think also that she really enjoyed being on the show and with the cast so that might have helped her. she's said that she is a fan of the show and she really came through with that role in my opinion.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 4:36pmI watched and adored the original British series, but have never been able get into the US version. It lacks the wit and subtlety and multidimensional characters and visual flair of the UK orignal. I suffered and cringed through the terrible acting and writing of the first season and finally gave up on the show halfway through the second and haven't watched it since. IMO, it's just a really bad soap opera with the occasional butt shot -- nothing more.

We are in agreement on the original UK version. Spectacular.
But if you stuck with QAF American Style, you would have found yourself in a sort of Beckettian drama of showing up every day, waiting for Godot (or at least ONE DECENT SCENE) and yet never knowing that kind of release and relief.
It's so freaking existential!!

I'm up and down about this series, but it's truly become a guilty pleasure with me. I find the storylines themselves pretty topical, even though the dialogue can be bad.
I do hate the holier than though attitude Michael has taken (I haven't seen last night's ep... tonight on OnDemand) re: JR; you would think friends could work something out. And especially him being raised by a single mother.
Even though it's soapy, (and I love my soaps) it's nice to see it be about gays and lesbians and POZ people... and not the 'sanitized' gay of Will & Grace, which just makes me wanna puke.
