Laurents Laughed When Tony Perkins Got Aids

This is from the Strouse book, which I haven't read. If anyone knows the whole story from the book, please post. I am disgusted.

Oh I believe it. Just because you are a talented and successful writer doesn't mean you don't have your jackass moments.

Out of context it's worse, but it's still hideous.

In context, it's reference to Perkins having bragged to their circle that after he and [NAME DELETED BECAUSE HE'S STILL ALIVE] got aversion therapy to cure them of their homosexuality, they were "no longer gay."

The aversion therapy, of course, did not work, and Perkins remained promiscuously homosexual for years, despite his protestations to the contrary.

So Laurents's giggles were NOT at Perkins having contracted the disease but at Perkins's hypocrisy being revealed.

Either way, it's hideous behavior but no more or less hideous than anything else Laurents has ever done or said.

NOTE TO DAME: As far as Bernadette goes, I think Arthur has always been careful never to say anything bad about her, just about Sam Mendes and that revival.

The unnamed person is a wonderful man, and his wife was a beautiful woman inside and out. But he and Tony were longtime lovers, and they both "went straight" and married hyper-beautiful woman.

I heard about the aversion therapy not from Arthur Laurents (whom I might have disbelieved) but from a woman who had been very close to Tony at the time.

Arthur Laurents will never reach his die-by date. He is one of the Undead, like your avatar.

Laurents is an odious little toad.

I've heard as many awful things about Laurents as I have about Jerome Robbins. And I remember some scathing stuff about someone else. Was it David Merrick or Gower Champion? I think it was Merrick, but my mind is all fuzzy at the moment. My entire move tomorrow morning to my new condo, meticulously planned 6 weeks ago, has just had a huge wrench thrown in the works today and I don't know what will happen. I blame Laurents.

that guy is old and way fugly
