"If the kids and the adults don't abide by the rules that are set down for them, then what's this country coming to if you don't have any structure?" another Wesson resident asked.
It's frightening that this is peoples' mindset. Because, you know, allowing someone to wear a tuxedo and not a "drape" will surely lead to juvenile delinquency.
Copiah County School District Superintendent Rick Cloption said federal court decisions uphold the district's decision not to publish the photograph.
Really? The federal courts have been bothered with nonsense like this before?

If I were Ceara, I'd submit a new photo - wearing something akin to Carol Burnett's outfit.
Maybe they'd be happy to print the tuxedo picture after all.

I don't understand why the 'lesbian' had to be added to the story. Are they really the only women who wear suits?
Either way, the rule is that men must suits & women must wear drapes (he he, funny word). It seems like this is a hissy fit wrapped up like a gay rights issue.

Marlene's Yearbook Photo
#7re: Lesbian in Tux Pix Nixed for H.S. Yearbook
Posted: 10/18/09 at 12:09pmIt was the same thing at my high school. There were a few pictures that in my senior yearbook looked like boys in dresses and girls in tuxedos.

She's lloks great and I think she should be able to wear whatever she wants as long as it's in good taste, and there's NOTHING wrong with a tux!
I bet she was dressed nicer than some of the guys.

Wait, homophobic people live in Mississippi?!
I thought they just lived EVERYWHERE else...
... is anyone actually surprised by this?

Posted: 10/18/09 at 4:36pmIs this about homophobia? Are they allowing other girls to wear something other than a drape?
#11re: Lesbian in Tux Pix Nixed for H.S. Yearbook
Posted: 10/18/09 at 4:41pmI hate to say it, but I agree with JohnBoy. It seems the lesbian thing was thrown in to make the principal look homophobic.
#12re: Lesbian in Tux Pix Nixed for H.S. Yearbook
Posted: 10/18/09 at 4:45pmBut if someone is not comfortable in the drape, which is very feminine, why shouldn't they be allowed to choose? I don't think it's homophobic, but it's very very sexist.

Posted: 10/18/09 at 4:46pmI want to know what the fcuk a drape is, besides those things hanging in my window.

but it's very very sexist.
It's only sexist if they let guys wear the "drapes".

It is definitely more sexist than homophobic, but something is a little sketchy about the remarks/tone...
... both the principal AND vice principal at my (CATHOLIC private) high-school were lesbians and both wore suits in the yearbook, for whatever that's worth. One (or two) is not indicative of all, of course.
If her being a lesbian had nothing to do with the issue of her wearing the suit than it should not be part of the article. Chalk it up to bad journalism... no, never! Not in Mississippi!

Your friend MUST be a lesbian.

Posted: 10/18/09 at 4:56pmNah. It really is a thing that just drapes over the shoulders. Why on earth we do it is beyond me.

Posted: 10/18/09 at 5:07pmGod, this is like the 1950's where every girl had that white fur wrap around their shoulders...

Posted: 10/18/09 at 5:11pmThe 1950s were a great decade!
#22re: Lesbian in Tux Pix Nixed for H.S. Yearbook
Posted: 10/18/09 at 5:23pmYea, back when women stayed home, bare foot and preggers.

The senior picture 'drape' is supposed to look like we're wearing a dress, when it's really just a piece of cloth wrapped around... the 'tux' is just the top part of a tuxedo jacket like a bib with no sleeves.
I have to say, Ceara's hair looks great.
#24re: Lesbian in Tux Pix Nixed for H.S. Yearbook
Posted: 10/18/09 at 6:02pmAs long as she's wearing a tux or a drape, I don't see what difference it makes. It will still fit in with the rest and most people probably wouldn't even notice if the school didn't draw attention to it.
