Letterman Makes Brokeback Joke :-(

On the 1/20/06 episode of the David Letterman Show, during an audience quiz, the host of the David Letterman Show, David Letterman, explained that the reason there have been no showings of Brokeback Mountain in Utah is because "the gay projectionist was having sex with the gay usher."

Concerned individuals are urged to visit cbs.com and to fill out the Feedback Form so as to inform CBS that this sort of hateful stereotyping of gay men as people who have sex with each other to the detriment of their employment responsibilities will lead to further violence against gay men.

A spokesman also suggests phone calls and letters to CBS to demand equal time to rebut this homophobia that will be traceable to an increase in gay bashing.
Tell CBS ENOUGH!

Somehow, I really doubt that a minor joke made on a talk show is going to fan the flames of hatred.

Apparently gay cowboys are the last minority group it's still okay to mock on network television. Imagine if Letterman had said this about Jewish people.

George Lucas stereotyped Jews in the top grossing movie of 1999 and I haven't really noticed an increase in anti-Semitism in the past few years.

Oh? You haven't? The Anti-Defamation League has documented an uptick in anti-Semitism so steep it resulted in The Passion of the Christ.

Where has the anti-Semitism been, pray tell? Unless you want to count Michael Jackson, it's been nowhere. The Passion of the Christ was not anti-Semitic in the slightest and that's the last I'm going to say about that.

Kringas - Actually rather easily. A joke about Brokeback told by Letterman is not funny, while the movie is a poignant and beautiful romance that reaches into your soul and stays there.

I tend to let the ADL be the last word on anti-Semitism over, say an Eyes Wide Shut fan.

Here's an idea: Instead of letting a noisy-yet-obscure organization and/or me tell you what is and isn't anti-Semitic, why not...er...come up with conclusions yourself?

It was anti-Semitic sammich, just because you say it wasn't doesn't make it so. ADL, obscure?

KJ, I'm crying too, for us all. I especially worry that the postive things that Brokeback had been accomplishing are all going to go up in a cloud of smoke created by Letterman jokes and gay stereotype fashion designers who reinforce negative opinions and cause an increase in anti-gay violence.

Namo, nobody is going to be driven to commit violence toward a gay person just because Letterman made a joke about Brokeback Mountain. If they do, they were sick in the head to begin with.

And, regarding the Passion of the Christ, any film about Anne Frank isn't anti-German is it?
