CS - there actually has been an uptick in Jewish hate crimes, especially in Europe.
Also, there have been increasing incidents in vandalism to Jewish cemetaries and places of worship. My temple had to spend thousands of dollars on extra security after the children in the Jewish Day Care center were attacked a few years ago.
In France and other parts of Europe, this has been particularly worrisome in the past few years.
In Iran, its President stated that the Holocaust never happened, calling it a myth.
And, are you refering to Star Wars I, if so, which character are you assuming to be Jewish? Wattro? If so, it is a wee bit more subtle than the Passion of the Christ, and if so, it is your own prejudices that assume he is based upon a Jew.
For the record, the Passion of the Christ ignores the teachings of Vatican 2, and does reinforce very negative sterotypes about Jews. As someone who has been accused of killing Christ, and who has been spat upon for being Jewish, I don't appreciate you treating the subject so lightly.

Clearly you have no idea what the ADL stands for, and how much it is involved in teaching tolerance at the grade school level.
The ADL is not obscure. It is one of the larger civil rights/equal rights organizations in the country.
They not only speak out against Anti-semitism, but they also address all kinds of discrimination. I don't agree with everything they do or stand for, but to characterize them as you do only demostrates your ignorance.

I must apologize for my part in steering this thread away from its original intent. I add an additional apology to You... and Namo due to me not articulating my thoughts very well. It was not my intention to garble my words in such a disasterous manner.
What I was meaning to say was that I don't think one throwaway joke that Letterman makes or one film that Mel Gibson makes is going to incite people into a committing a hate crime alone. There are other factors at work.
