Hey Guys!
Is there anyone who is watching the show and knows the name of the first song they played on the show? Thanks.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:13amThe premise seems to be reaching a bit too much, but I don't care I'm a sucker for the 70s, the era, the music, and the clothes so I'll watch it after Grey's. Besides the only other show on at 10 is ER and I haven't watched that since Clooney.

i had no interest in watching this show until i found out that Lisa Bonet was going to make an appearance... who doesn't love Lisa Bonet!? Denise Huxtables kick a$$...haha...
anyways... i really enjoyed this show... enough for me to watch it... but if the premise gets old after a while then i'll stop... but so far so good... except for the hair and sideburns! argh... that is ugly to look at!

The original 'Life on Mars' is easily the greatest thing the BBC has ever done, so I am understandably wary of this remake. I'll give it a bash though... lord help me...

The orginal BBC version was indeed great.
I TiVoed this but haven't watched it yet. I have high hopes for it, since the SF Chronicle reviewer (who loved the original and despises most American remakes) gave it a good review.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:10pmI mussed everything last night! I will watch it online. I do have an interest in it. And I want to see Lisa Bonet.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:19pmHaving never seen the BBC version, I was impressed. But I am a sucker for nostalgic stuff, like the old rotary phones, the Alka-Seltzer commercial, Gretchen Mol's hair...

Hey Stockard, yeah that's Rhoda from the Bad Seed. Granted I'm not a sociopath but Heaven's to Betsy I love Rhoda/ Patty McCormick. To be so young she was amazing. My favorite character was Hortence Dagle, GOD she was funny.
It's one of my all time favorite films. 1956 was a good year for movies.

I didn't know there was a BBC version, but thought this was pretty enjoyable--enough to keep me watching? Nah...
Though who doesn't love seeing Imperioli as a schlub?
I just didn't think the premiere really covered alot of ground--just him asking for his cell phone.
SPOILER ALERT!!
I will say I thought it was quite brave to show the Twin Towers, but his reaction wasn't as overwhelming as I would have liked--this could have been a great tv moment, and they kinda blew it.

I can't praise the BBC version highly enough; I can and do watch it for hours and hours. If you have the opportunity to watch it, please do! John Simm is one of the finest actors I can think of, and there is only ONE Gene Hunt in my heart. Some of the Britishness may go wafting a little overhead, but don't let that put you off a supremely finely crafted drama.
Just make sure you lower your expectations if you then decide to move onto 'Ashes to Ashes'; it's pretty good, but in comparison with 'Life on Mars', it looks very sad indeed.
(Although I think it has a higher History Boy quotient, which is nice.

so i was doing some research on the BBC version and it lasted for about 18 episodes... let's hope that if this american version succeeds that they don't let the series run way past its course... that's my only concern.... most british shows tend to have forseen endings... while american shows just drag things out until it's no longer good...
and this show reminded me an awful lot of that movie FREQUENCY

Posted: 10/10/08 at 7:49pmI tried to watch it........but fell asleep after the first 15 minutes. It was pretty strange IMO. As far as Lisa Bonet, did anyone else seem to think she had a HUGE a$$, was it just the jeans or has little Denise just really added alot of junk to her trunk?
re: Life On Mars#17
Posted: 10/10/08 at 8:49pmI have to watch the whole episode on line. My friend called to tell me that she was an extra on the show and was on the fifth episode as well to come so I will have check her out.
re: Life On Mars#18
Posted: 10/10/08 at 9:23pmLOVED it, and I actually think they did the Twin Towers moment just right. A stunned reaction rather than a "big" one. If the actor had overplayed it, that's where they would have blown it.

The original 'Life on Mars' is easily the greatest thing the BBC has ever done
I wouldn't go that far, but I did grow very fond of the original series. Which is why so far it's impossible to judge the new one- it had almost no original content, though I will say that the added scenes were where Jason O'Mara did his best acting. He's no John Simm, but then, who is?
The original LoM made mistakes as well as brilliant moves- the UK pilot's "practical joke" with Annie's ex-boyfriend was completely implausible, for instance- so it isn't sacrosanct. Here's hoping the U.S. version starts working with what it has, like Keitel's Gene being way too old and small to be a plausible physical challenge for O'Mara's Sam. They can't have the same relationship that the UK Sam and Gene did, but they can still be interesting together if the writers lean away from direct copying and find their own way.

I'm watching it now. My heart hurts a little. We'll keep going. We'll see how it fares. It ... could pick up. It's not like it's not working from a strong source, after all. ^_^

My DVR light came on last night and I couldn't figure out what was recording. I totally forgot about it....
I'll watch it tonight.

The second episode was still strong..yeah, Dawn Wiener!
I didn't catch onto the robot-thing that Sam kept seeing. But I like the show overall. I'm really loving the chemistry between Jason O'Mara and Harvey Keitel.
