Check out the new avatar - I chopped off the curls for Locks of Love and then did a dye job just for kicks and giggles, and (poof) this is the new look!

That's awesome - I really admire people who do that for others
.
I wish I could but my hair is way too short and grows way too slowly.

Posted: 4/25/05 at 6:35pmhow much did you cut off? Do you love it? When my sister did it, there was a day of transition where NO ONE was allowed to talk to her about her hair...

Posted: 4/25/05 at 6:37pmMy aunt, cousin and one of my good friends did this. I think it's great when people do.... I did it when I was much younger (and had hair past my butt). I hate to say that now I'm a bit too attached to my hair (and look really badly with short hair -- not to mention I might fear dismemberment from my bf) to do it again.

Posted: 4/25/05 at 6:56pmLOL... it was weird. When it was long it was always in my face and so I would just do the hair-toss thing with a swing of my head... well, okay, now it's such a habit that I still do the toss, but no hair tosses, so I just look like I have a psycho head twitch.

Very similar to my rule. Actually, it was last spring break, I went home and was there for two days, then got my hair chopped off for Locks of Love on my way to the airport to meet a friend in L.A. So luckily, the only person who saw my hair before I was okay with it was her (and my dad who drove me to the airport). I'm totally loving the short hair though, and it was for a good cause, so I'm totally glad I did it!

Posted: 4/25/05 at 7:18pmYay Jess... it is fun. Though wasn't it strange to see the stylist hold a big ponytail of severed hair in her hand, and then make the connection... "wait - that's MY hair!"

Soooo disturbing. And they're like, yeah, we take of 10 inches, and what you don't realize is that means they're actually going to take off 12. Yikes!!

I was about 8 when I did it... just decided I'd had it with long hair and wanted an easy, pixie type hair cut. When I told my stylist what I wanted, she suggested donating it.
My father had taken me to get it done.... I remember walking into the kitchen when we got home and my mother was doing the dishes. She had a glass in her hand and a towel inside the glass drying it; she took one look at how much hair I'd cut off and shattered the glass. It was pretty amusing, actually.

See, when I was little, my mom kept trying to convince me to cut it short because brushing through it was an absolute nightmare (my hair is very thick and very curly); she would usually have to yank through it with a brush and I would sit and cry. Okay, that sounds more abusive than it actually was, but no amount of detangler would ever help. Finally I did get it cut short... my freshman year of high school...
And now, again.

You mean you fear dismemberment by your bf...and me. We've been through this. Your hair isn't going anywhere.
But that's a great cause.

This is true..... what else would I flip about as I'm walking up 8th yelling into my cell phone?

Posted: 4/25/05 at 10:04pmGood for you! I did likewise in November. Oddly enough, even though I got 11 1/2 inches cut off, it didn't faze me at all. I only wish Locks of Love could send you a pic of the child who received your hair, and the lovely new wig that it became.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 12:45amWait... You get your hair cut off and send it to people? Isn't that some kind of health hazard? I can't say I've ever heard of it before. How does this work?
