SOMMSy... the movie is great. Interesting that for me there is only one relationship that leaves me in the air... the others seems to be left in the right track.
I am so watching this movie again... tomorrow.

Happy, with complexity, I can handle. I'll give it a try.
Is there a fairy godmother in a beautiful dress, per chance?

I love this movie so much. I once heard it described as, "Porn for women who like sensitive men in sweaters." Very apt, I think.
I love all of the little stories, but the one that gets me the most is the sign guy. I also love that little girl kicking ass with "All I Want for Christmas is You," and the little boy who plays Sam.

Posted: 12/13/05 at 12:04pmSOMMS - the title is a portion of the theme of the movie which is 'love actually IS all around us'. I really think you'll like it - although I understand your hesitancy based on what you may be reading. It really is all about the hopefulness and healing power of love - in all its forms.

Posted: 12/13/05 at 12:20pmWhenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

CostumeMistress, I LOVE that quote by Bill Nighy's character about drugs... I think I laughed for five minutes straight after that during the movie.
And of course, no great movie is complete without Colin Firth jumping into a lake...yeah, I'd watch it just for that.

Posted: 12/13/05 at 12:35pmIf i were Kiera's (it is Kiera isn't it?) character, i would leave my husband for sign guy. First off, it's the cutest thing i have ever seen a guy do, even if it is a movie; and second, it's Andrew Lincoln. But that's just me..

Posted: 12/13/05 at 12:38pmI don't think that the sign guy would have let her leave her husband for him, since he was his best friend. It seemed like it was enough for him to finally tell her how much he loved her since it had been torturing him for so long, but he didn't seem like the type to stab his best friend in the back, no matter how much he loved Keira's character.

[Natalie, a secretary, is greeting the Prime Minister]
Natalie: Hello, David. I mean "sir". Sh*t, I can't believe I've just said that. Oh, and now I've gone and said "sh*t" - twice. I'm so sorry, sir.
Prime Minister: It's fine, it's fine. You could've said "f*ck", and then we'd have been in real trouble.
Natalie: Thank you, sir. I did have an awful premonition that I was going to f*ck up on the first day. Oh, piss-it!

Ten years ago, on Nov. 14, 2003, "Love Actually" opened in wide release around the country. The film quickly became a favorite for the holiday season, and stands as one of the most celebrated romantic comedies of the decade.
Can you believe it's been 10 years?
Here's a thread from the archives... when the movie was first released. (although it appears the beginning of the thread may be lost to the ages)
I think I'll be watching it this weekend. (Reg??!!)
