I watched the first episode this morning. Is anyone else watching?

I am out to lunch on it. But couldn't take my eyes off of it. Very West Side Story-ish. Has his trademark look all over it. I read that he only directed the first episode. That may be a mistake. A number of Broad way actors in the cast including Billy Porter and Lillias White. Jaden Smith and Jimmy Smitts are also in the cast. Will give episode 2 a watch tonight.

Jaden Smith's name was enough to turn me off watching this.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

I actually did not realize it was him until Lillias and Billy appeared and I IMDB'd the cast list. I like his character.

I'm watching it so far up to episode 4. Sort of on the fence with it. I thought it was odd to hire Daveed Diggs to play the adult Ezekiel (so far not much air time) but have his voice dubbed. I didn't realize it was him at first then had to look up who he was playing and on wikipedia it says.

Daveed Diggs as adult Ezekiel, who rap-narrates the series. His rapping voice is dubbed by hip hop artist Nas.

I watched the first episode earlier today. It was...difficult for me to get through. I love Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet and l enjoyed Australia and Great Gatsby despite their faults. I might try for a few more episodes but the first was rough for me. I didn't even realize it was Daveed playing the older Zeke. I loved seeing Lillias and Billy though. And though I had heard that it was a musical, there was only I think two instances of singing (from that girl Zeke is in love with), about 90 seconds of singing in a 90-minute episode.

I am on episode 5. Still on the fence but can't seem to stop watching.

There was a definite shift in tone after the first episode. The only way I can describe it is that the directors after the first episode had all of the Lurhmann trademarks in the script but didn't seem to know what to do with them. If that makes sense. They played it "safe" but turned it into an almost run of the mill episodic series. Just at the beginning of episode 5 and it seems some of the feel of the first episode is back.

Some really nice talent in the show and likable characters. I am really enjoying Jimmy Smitts.

Update: Finished episode 5. It is a bit back on track. I am hoping a predictable scenario does not play out though. I also ralised that I am really liking Jayden smith in this.

I am going to roll with it and see where it goes.

I'm only on episode 3 but I'm enjoying this almost as much as Stranger Things. And I liked the second and third episodes better than the first. The cast is fantastic, the music is great, and I could watch Shameik Moore and Yahya Abdul-Mateen ALL DAY.

Most definitely loving this. This is my childhood. South Bronx mid to late '70s...watching the fellas plug in their boom boxes into the street lamps and amping up Grandmaster Flash, The Sugar Hill Gang, etc.

Up and coming rappers spitting rhymes on the street corner in epic rap battles.

Laying down cardboard boxes on the sidewalk ground and break dancing.

This series is hitting all the right notes...very authentic.

No nena. I was born on the Lower East Side. Rivington Street to be exact. Then we moved to Grand Street and we lived there until I was about 8. Then we moved to the South Bronx and that's where I REALLY GREW UP...lol
