I'd like to think I'd do the same.
I never want to find out.

If I were murdered, I don't think I could ever forgive the killer.
Somewhere the murdered brother, looking down on the scene, screamed, "WTF?"
SNAFU and Jordan are too cynical. I know that if I were murdered I'd want one of my family to do the same as this man's brother. I'm not a vengeful individual. And who's to say the dead man wasn't a forgiving person? I think this man knew his brother better than anyone on this board.
Not cynical at all. Just don't give into to PC forgive the sinner school of thought because I read a Self Help book du jour mentality. If someone robbed my brother or family member of their life, I would want justice. Decisions are made, actions are taken and consequences happen.
It is natural to feel anger, want redress, mourn and want the proper punishment.
You're projecting, SNAFU. It's apparent this man doesn't share your sentiment(s). Furthermore, the brother is getting justice. The defendant pleaded guilty and will be behind bars.
I've never heard the concept of PC applied to forgiveness before.
The idea of forgiveness pre-dates the idea of PC.
Forgiveness, as I understand it, benefits the person forgiving rather than the person being forgived.
What is the point of the younger brother carrying and spreading anger for the rest of his life? It won't bring back the dead brother. It doesn't reduce the prison time of the murderer.
It DOES give the younger brother the chance to live with some peace in spite of the murder of his brother.
I think it is pretty powerful.. much more powerful than living a life of perpetual hate.
The emotional buck stopped with the younger brother. I think that is pretty strong and pretty brave.
I don't know if I could do it myself. I carry anger for much less than that. But I do find it inspiring.
