MIKA: The Origin of Love

Anyone else enjoying the new album? I really love almost every track with the exceptions being Lola and Celebrate which just don't grab me. I actually prefer Elle Ma Dit to its English-language version, Emily. And as for the second CD in the Deluxe release, the UK release with the French tracks is WAY better than the US release which is acoustics and remixes (though both feature Elle Ma Dit and Tah Dah). Oh, and his adaptation of Popular from Wicked is wonderful! I thought this place would be all atwitter over the song, but nary a peep. :-/

I ordered the Deluxe Edition and limited edition screen print from his website and framed the screen print for my mother (as well as took her to the concert for her birthday since she's a HUGE Mika fan) and I received the autographed CD. YAY!

His concert in Chicago was fantastic! Very simple with less effort at a "production" than his last show. And he gave a nod to Stephen Schwartz for Popular when he performed Popular Song.

Still not sure why he's not a bigger deal in the US. His talent is extraordinary.

I sort of wish he had been covering "The Origin of Love" from Hedwig.

His last CD was a hit with the gays but I didn't hear a lot of airplay on the non-dance radio stations.

I didn't even know he had a new album. I haven't been going out lately, so I don't know if he's being played at the bars in the Castro.

Thanks for the review! My old coworker might have a copy I can borrow.

Thanks for the heads up on the new album.. I'm listening to it on Spotify right now. I haven't really heard anything of his since Life in Cartoon Motion. He came back on my radar this summer when we had a bit of an impromptu sing-a-long when I was hiking in Massachusetts. Good times. MIKA: The Origin of Love

Son of a gunn - The Boy Who Knew Too Much is actually my favorite album of his. We Are Golden, Blame It On the Girls, I See You, Touches You...great songs! And his theme to the film Kick-Ass.

Every now and then I'll hear a song of Mika's popping up in the background of TV shows, but I still have yet to hear anything of his in the mainstream or even meet anyone who has heard of him. I really wish So You Think You Can Dance would choreograph a samba to Elle Ma Dit. It could be sensational (though maybe it's a touch too fast).

I'm loving this album too, as I love all three of his records. It's definitely a different sound to the others, which I wasn't expecting, but I've been listening to it a lot more than other recent purchases - almost non-stop, in fact.

Love You When I'm Drunk is my favorite, though iTunes tells me Emily is the one I've played the most.

Underwater is my least fave - that's his next single, I think?

I have a kinda love/hate thing for Mika, but really enjoy most of the new album!

As for his lack of recent exposure--it's not just the US, he's pretty much fallen off the charts in the UK too, which surprises me a little.
