Service cuts & fare increases will now be the norm. This is the NY version of the Gang That Could Not Shoot Straight.
I know it is silly to even suggest it but how about telling the TWU the money is not there. In addition to tell the MTA bigwigs to give up their perks, why not have retired MTA workers pay for their medical benefits & strip away their right to ride free forever?
Look closely at all who receive free rides & than ask WHY?
Why build a 2 nd Avenue subway when the rest of the system is on the verge of collapse no matter how much money they pour into it?

Never answer the question. Why should I pay in higher fares for the health benefits & free rides for workers who are no longer employed by the MTA. I do use the word workers very loosely when I talk of the TWU .

I think the MTA does an incredible job considering it's size.
Most places in this country would love to have a mass transit system as big as NYC.

So am I.
Chef, talk to me in August, after you've been waiting 40 minutes on a stifling platform for a train that then stalls due to "congestion ahead."

"Live here. Use it on a daily basis. Winter, spring, summer, fall. Then get back to us."
I'm from New York.
I lived there for 38 years. Winter, spring, summer, fall.
Does that count?

Yes, it does.
*sits corrected*
ETA: I't approximately 9:22 am. I'm leaving now for work. Let's see how long it takes me to get from 103rd Street on the West Side to 34th Street Penn Station via the subway.
Ready. Set. Go.

deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Someone probably pulled the emergency brake.
Really, what's the point of those? I cannot think of any situation in which it would be necessary to stop a train in the middle of a tunnel. Even if someone on board was having a heart attack or if there was a knife fight or the mariachi band has just launched into its third encore of LFO's "Summer Girl's," wouldn't it be better to wait until the train reaches a station rather than stranding it in mole-people land for 30 minutes?

Calvin-
It's so tourists can *see* the mole-people. Duh.

MTA: 1 Deet: 0
Left the house at 9:22, arrived on the platform at 9:26, train arrived 9:28, arrived at 34th Street at 9:40, no delays the whole way down. DAMMIT!
But there's always the commute home.

I know, Calvin. There isn't anything that could happen that hasn't been portrayed in a Spiderman movie that would necessitate pulling the emergency brake.
Deet, do you take the B/C or the 1?

I emit light. They're scared of that.
Is it just me, or have the A trains become a rarer species as of late? It seems that I see three E's pass for every one A.

It's not just you, Calvin. Since I take the C train, I can attest that you are absolutely correct - there are a minimum of 3 E trains in between the C trains - and usually 1 or 2 A trains before a C arrives.
I'll notate it later, on my way home.

"It seems that I see three E's pass for every one A. "
I have vivid memories of seeing five E trains pass by for every A train that arrived. This during evening rush hour at 42nd Street. Not an isolated occurrence, this was daily.

I could have sworn they used to be more frequent. I guess I'm just getting crankier and more impatient with each passing day. And each passing E.
