Exactly. It services millions of people a day and it's over a 100 years old, time management is pretty key around the city.

It's 2nd avenue subway, not 3rd avenue. Anyways, I feel like if so many people didn't offer "free" swipes to total strangers and so many people wouldn't sneak in, and if you sneaked in, you truly got in major trouble...the prices wouldn't have to go up every 2 years. They should add more cops or more systems to avoid that, such as the tall turnstiles.

Recently, I have found myself on an R train that switched to the F line at rush hour with no announcement and a conductor that did not speak English - this did not make for a happy train - that waited in the tunnel for 20 minutes and ended up stretching my 20 minute trip to over 45...
I had two weekends in January where all 5 subway lines near my my apt had service disruptions leaving me pretty high and dry and another of those weekends where every line I took through Manhattan had significant disruptions,
Through all of this, one of the main staircases at my home station closed in October for work and was due to be reopened a week before Thanksgiving, but it is still closed and the only thing that has been done to it is demolition.

I also get pretty darn angry in the afternoons when I watch herds of teenagers leaving school all crown into the station, jump turnstiles and open the emergency exit for their friends to stream though and then, to rub salt in the wound, turn the platform and then train into a teen club where they insist on taking over the entire space as their personal lounge and act as obnoxious as humanly possible... You don't need to stretch out over three seats, or pole dance, or blast your music or yell down the car or... Etc, etc, etc

$116.50 a month is pretty steep for someone making minimum wage.
I suspect this will have the biggest impact on those who rely on the MTA to get back and forth from their minimum wage job and can't afford to click on the Uber app on their iPhone6/Android.

One of the issues is that the fares didn't keep pace with the amount of maintenance needed for a VERY long time. Similarly to what is happening with highways and bridges throughout the US, the infrastructure of the subway was not kept up for the majority of its existence, and now the MTA has to scramble for more and more money to repair something that should have been taken care of all along. (That and they don't know how to manage their money.)

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I leave with plenty of time to get to work, thank you very much. Naturally, I work in a little bit of time for a brief possible delay, but when the train is delayed at the station for 3 or 4 minutes with no explanation from the conductor at EVERY stop (as happened to me this morning), that just can't be accounted for. Sorry, but I don't have that much money to begin with despite working two jobs, and for the amount I'm paying for this service it isn't unreasonable that it actually run correctly.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

As I said earlier, those people hurt everyone, no one should be allowed to sneak in.

Times really change. It was chic when Coco and Bruno and Leroy and Doris and Montgomery were doing it.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

My issue is less with what they do while there, but rather the fact that insist upon dominating the space, stalling traffic, etc and I have just watched them ALL not pay a single fare.
