The prestigious award, founded just 8 short months ago to celebrate the best of the Broadway stage, has now been extended to include film.
It is all common knowledge (to those of you that track these things,) that the Munky awards are perhaps the sole determining factor in whether a show succeeds or bombs. After this first film awards, I suspect that the same will apply.
For those of you remember the voting guidelines from the spring, the same rules apply here. For first-timers, all you do is peruse my list of nominees and PM me your votes for what you believe to be the best. All voting must be done via PM. Results will be posted one week from right now.
All categories will contain a maximum of 6 nominees, to accomodate for a wider variety of taste.
If you send me a vote for two things in the same category (I couldn't decide!) then neither will count. Let the voting begin!

Great job, Munk. Honestly
Why thank you!
Re: your signature: I watched that movie last night. That line always cracks me up.

munk, maybe if you had a different avatar I could take your opinion of movies seriously, but, alas, I can not.
Also, just a note, how can King Kong have an acting nomination for Drama and Musical/Comedy, it's one or the other (also, the only thing in that movie that even remotely deserves a nomination is Naomi Watts, the rest of the movie was a ****storm)
Where are all the RENT noms? Come on, never mind the Av, the omission of RENT in everything but Supporting Actress is a JOKE!
Munky... love ya like the sista I never wanted, but seriously, you have way too much free time.
to ZONEACE ~
what does his avatar have to do with anything? are you that gullible to be influenced by the little picture on the left hand side?
nice job MUNK ~ how long did it take you to compile the list.
have you seen all your nominees?

Yeah, I've seen them all. I was bored last night, what can I say. THe Jack Black thing was a mistake, I will fix it.
ZONEFACE: Not only are you in the minority with disliking KING KONG, but you are in no place to criticize my taste in anything. Not that I owe you an explanation for anything (because obviously if something this trivial gets you THAT annoyed, there's a deeper problem,) but I don't believe KONG to be the best film of the year at all. And as far as my avatar, I just think it's beautiful.
I'm sending you my votes now. You're going to laugh at me.
The choices are good, Munk, but I'm curious: Are these you're personal nominees that we're voting on?
More or less. I put people in placed that perhaps I wouldn't have nominated, but that people seem to be pulling for. So, to make the outcome only fair, I've included people like Joan Allen and Shirley Maclaine.
Understood.

Ah, two of my winners. :)
Munk...this isn't a slam against you, just a general observation about the industry... isn't it bizarre just how few people of color have given what a majority would consider 'awards worthy performances' this year?
Having seen less than half of the nominees (for shame!), I don't feel qualified to vote. But of the ones that I have seen, I agree with your choices--great job putting this together!

Someone on Oscarwatch actually posted an article about that. Seems Terrence Howard is the only actor of colour (and, arguably, the GEISHA gals) who is being noticed by the critics and guilds this year.
It might be interesting, but that's also due in part to parts written.
It was a hard choice to omit Thandie Newton, Terrence Howard (twice), and Don Cheadle - but I was ultimately more impressed and moved by other performances.
I have to admit that Thandie Newton was the weakest link for me in Crash, but then I have never been what could be called fond of Ms Newton and her performances.
I haven't noticed much buzz for the Geisha ladies so far; I have to admit that the performances left me cold, with the exception of Michelle Yeoh, who I worship but whose role isn't really "Oscar material".
PMing you my picks, Munk.
Bump for those who haven't voted.

Don Cheadle gave the best performance in Hotel Rwanda. I loved that movie.
Oh well.
Good thing that was last year...
My thoughts exactly.
I did love Terrence Howard in Hustle and Flow...I do hope he gets nominated.
I'm actually sad there's no buzz for Gong Li as her performance as Hatsumomo was the strongest in that plodding mess of a movie.
I didn't think the movie was a plodding mess, but I also very much loved the actress that played young Sayuri (forget younger name.) She was excellent.
