Posted: 1/4/06 at 4:49pmYes, but I must admit that I was disappointed. I wanted a flim like "You Make me Feel Like Dancing" about Jacques D'Amboise and his programs for inner-city kids, but "Mad Hot Ballroom" seemed to focus more on winning than it did on changing the lives of kids.

One of my favorite films of the past year. Love the teachers advice how to merengue - "Upstairs, everyobes asleep. Downstairs...the party's goin' on."
And love the theme song by Steve Lutvak!

Posted: 1/4/06 at 7:58pmIt's a great documentary, I love when the kids are talking about their social lives. And I love ballroom dancing, so yay!

Posted: 1/4/06 at 9:51pmLoved this movie...although I found it quite ironic that the current movement in education is "leaving no child behind" and "all children can acheive the standard"...and here is this successful program that is changing the lives and behaviors of children for the better, and it's based on a competition. Which only goes to show, that if kids really want something they will work for it....and maybe competition isn't such a horrible thing. It's much more "real world" than "no child left behind". People will fail and there will be competition in life, however you need how to learn to be a gracious loser, and if work hard, there are times you may end up being a winner.

Master,
I coach with Steve. He's such a friggin' doll and that song is fantastic! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that song gets the recognition it deserves.

Steve is SO talented and a total sweetie-pie, robbiej! I'll bet he's a great coach. I am really hoping his theme song gets an Oscar nom - at the very least!

Hah I loved this movie too. I watched it with two of my dancer friends and now we are all going to take latin ballroom lessons this semester.
And I loved the theme song as well. I love that they took quotes from the movie and made it into a ballroom song.

I just finished viewing this movie for the first time, and I loved it! (I love dance movies in general anyway.) And Wilson was so adorable! I especially loved the kids from the Washington Heights school and I was so happy for them in the end. They danced wonderfully!
But I received an extra surprise when I instantly caught sight of one of the judges during the finals. MY ANNIE!!! I was so happy to see her in this movie. It was a completely unexpected surprise for me. (I knew nothing about this movie prior to renting it.)
I am glad to read that some of you also enjoyed this movie.

It wasn't bad.
I was cracking up when the girl was talking about rapists and how they go after 11 year olds and stuff. The look on the one girl's face was priceless!!
