When is this airing? Hopefully it will somewhat involve her talking about her music. She's truly known for her music over anything.

There only a little accent in Gotham's youtube Madonna link - particularly some of the Os. Much of that is SE Michigan speak (especially the "****ed off").
FWIW Lipton himself is from Detroit (and Detroit proper, not suburbia and points north like Madonna).
And you simply do not get MORE pretentious than Lipton!

You certainly do!
A lot of what he does is tongue-in-cheek. It's the interviewee's response that goes one way or another.
Nobody who appeared on Arrested Development merits the label of pretentiousness.
Of course there's more than one British accent, just like there's more than one American accent.
(and any other country you want to name)
That's why I said *a* British accent, not THE British accent.
Sheesh.
Just a casual observation, best12, not aimed at you. Of course you know there's different accents...as an avid viewer of Upstairs Downstairs, how could you not?
More directed toward the poster who seemed to think a British accent was somehow superior or more highbrow than a Detroit one.

The problem with James Lipton is that he's a pompous ass out for his own glory. Inside the Actor's Studio was a wonderful idea that at some point went wrong. Documenting interviews with theater artists is a wonderful idea. It gives a record for future generations. However, somewhere along the way it became less Studs Terkel and more Oprah Winfrey. Perhaps needing to attract more viewers they needed a different format.
I remember watching the interview with Carol Burnett and knowing that the show was heading downhill. In that show, Carol tells about having to prove who she was using her trademark Tarzan call. Then Lipton looks over his glasses and meekly asks "Would you do it for us?" Asking this comedy legend to do something that has been recorded on her show several times was repetitive and useless. Use the time to find out about the woman, not repeat stuff we already have recorded.
The most cringeworthy moments for me are the stupid roll call of awards while introducing the guest, everything from Oscars to MTV Awards to magazine polls. As if they really mean anything! Also, the obligatory applause at the mention of certain roles.

Never said a British accent was superior to Detroit.
You assumed that yourself.
You can have a Detroit accent...I actually enjoy when Eminem talks.
I just said I'd prefer to have a British one.
who friggin cares anyway....let us all live and cut the picking apart...
Madonna's a billionaire, happy mom of 4...she's earned it..been in the spotlight for 30 years...she can turn Mormon and have a Ugandan accent for all I care.
She worked her ass off to get to where she is.
it wasn't handed to her...she's living the American Dream.
so,..suck it.
What has always amazed me about the Madonna/British accent thing is..
Why no one has ever commented on the fact that Barbra Streisand has alternated between pure Brooklynese and a 1935 British Mayfair accent for the last 65 years! Sometimes even in mid word!!
By only guess is because it's Barbra!
and Madonna, is Madonna
..and you all know what i mean by that!
Namo - sorry luv but as much as you love to hate Madonna im afraid you are very wrong about her new film, word is very positive from all who seen the few 40 min screenings she has done (especially here in the UK), and yes Namo i know 2 people who were at the screening and one girl called Abbie (an actress i directed a few years back) who has a small role in the film. However im sire you will hate it, if you didnt hate it then what else would you have to do with your time?
As for the accent, im a brit and ys we have many accents. Madonna's british twang was very true of where she was living, it was southern but very soft, that matches up with where she lives.
However i think she put it on a bit as well

Gotham, that's not pretentiousness that's stroking the guest's ego.
Notice that Burnett didn't decline doing her Tarzan yell when she very well could have.
The frustrating thing about Lipton is that he actually can be good interviewer--his interview with Spike Lee was truly amazing--but, oh, that breathy asskissing...
The alleged Madonna intereview strikes me as a phony interviewing a phony. I think I'll skip. Lipton's best subjects are ones that can flintily cut the crap and Madonna hasn't been in that place ever since she discovered Kaballah. And maybe even before then.

It could end up phony & phony OR it could end up very good if they both go back to their roots.
I did post ages back in this thread that it was already confirmed that this was NOT happening
And now her new album is definitely official! Her mangager tweeted today..."1st day in recording studio for the new album...Very Exciting"...I still don't know how to link to tweets, but yay.
