Hairspray and DWTS alum Marissa Jaret Winokur is preparing to host her own daytime talk show for Sony Pictures Television in Fall 2009.
Sony also produced Ricki Lake's popular talk show in the 90's.
Does that mean Marissa will preside over crazy topics like Ricki? Tranny beauty pageants, paternity results, "my daughter dresses too sexy" etc?
Hmmm?
Playbill
Will they chant "GO RISSA, GO RISSA?"
Hey, it worked for Megan Mullaly Tempestt Bledsoe "the mommies" Danny Bonaduce Vicki Lawrence Marsha Warfield Rolanda Watts Gordon Elliott George Hamilton uh....Ellen!
I totally forgot about the "mommies". Whatever happened to them? Not that I really care mind you.
Poor things. Not only did they have a TV show cursed with Julia Duffy playing an Alison Sugarbaker type, but they were stuck with a talk show in which a big coup guest was Wink Martindale.
Does this mean that Nikki Blonsky automatically gets one once she's over the hill?

Don't forget Dr. Bertrice Berry, Caroline Rhea, the "other Mark Walberg", Richard Lopez, Richard Bay, etc. etc. etc.
And at night: Alan Thicke, Magic Johnson, Whoopi Goldberg, Pat Sajack and Chevy Chase!
Oh, I'd forgotten Caroline Rhea. And never even heard of some of those.
And Roseanne!
Oh my. The list of failed talk show hosts is long and distinguished, isn't it?
I remember one particularly bad one in the late 80s/early 90s. The woman had the personality of a grape. I can't remember her name at the moment, but if someone mentioned it I think I'd know it.
Also I shudder to think that the "mommies" had a sitcom, too. I don't remember them being particularly funny. Then again, I probably wasn't part of their target audience either.
Jenny Jones & Sally Jesse Raphael. Sadly, I think I've seen every single one mentioned at some point.
But weren't Jenny Jones and Sally pretty successful? They at least lasted several seasons. I feel like Sally was on forever.
Jenny Jones ran from 1991 to 2003; Sally ran from 1983 to 2002.
Other talk-show underperformers (defined as barely making through one or two seasons) include Greg Behrendt, Tony Danza, Dennis Miller, Jon Stewart, Sharon Osbourne, Dr. Laura, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Wayne Brady, Martin Short, Gabrielle Carteris, Jane Pauley, Sinbad, Star Jones, Greg Kinnear and Queen Latifah.

John McEnroe is a good name to throw out there. Absolutely no one even watched the show.
She's still on DWTS isn't she? so shes not an alum yet.

I actually really liked Caroline Rhea, and was very sad when it suddenly dissapeared with *no* warning.
I agree I throught Caroline Rhea was better then most
Hmm...I guess we'll see how long the show lasts. I have to wonder though. Even with her success in Hairspray and her recent DWTS attention and press, she doesn't strike me as someone who'd warrant having her own talk show.
