i got my copy of Mary Birdsong's JUDY SPEAKS yesterday (available on her website) & it just blew me away!!!
i knew that i would love it, but it far exceeded my expectations!

it was such a joy to find out that it was available on dvd; i wasnt in nyc while she was doing it @ ars nova so i thought id never get to see it! i love the JUDY SPEAKS recordings; i dont laugh AT her (& hate anyone who would), & thats what i loved best about her performance, she was laughing (& crying) WITH Judy...& not only was she channelling Judy, she was giving people who'd never had the chance to love Judy while she was alive a place to direct their Judy love! to me, that is very spiritual.

in Peggy Lee's autobiography, she wrote about being friends with Judy & she wanted to make it clear that Judy laughed *JUST AS MUCH* (& just as hard) as she cried, & i think Mary Birdsong really expressed that.

i thought she was wonderful before but now i consider her a top-shelf goddess!!!!

i'm suprised that the show didnt move on to a larger venue; that Mary Birdsong really packs a wallop!!!

it's an incredible show, mostly because of Birdsong's incredible energy. You feel it as you watch it, mesmerized, and by the end, you're as exhausted as she is!! and it's ingeniously staged as well. SO MUCH MORE than an imitation!

I just finished watching this. I probably shouldn't have even bumped this thread yet because I am absolutely speechless. It would have been more responsible of me to wait until I had processed the emotions that I'm feeling now, but I'm so caught up in the moment I just wanted to encourage everyone to see this show. Hopefully I can come back and explain it with a little more depth but for right now I'm just filled to the brim with affection for this show. If it is within your power, go to her website right now and buy this DVD. You'll be glad you did and you will enthusiastically recommend it to your friends. It's not just a show, it's a spiritual experience.

I don't know. I hate the idea of those tapes being out there. But for YOU, n69n, I will give Mary Birdsong a try.
