i just want to say, stuff like this makes me love Broadway even more. when you work 8 shows a week, it's pretty damn hard to balance a drug problem or malnutrition and remain employed. these tv stars have too much down time. maybe free time is the cause, not money.

How about you guys not argue over something that so far is only a tabloid rumor?

Posted: 7/3/04 at 10:34amyes, sumofallthings, it is not smart to do any of the things you mentioned, but their are people who make such mistakes when they are younger and less mature, and suffer the consequences long after. it is never intelligent to do drugs, but people make mistakes, dammit! we live in a society that is overrun with such substances, they are everywhere. i know many dont consider marajuana to be a "drug", but where i live, i can name more people who have thrown their lives away with it than i want to think about, yes it makes me sick, and yes sometimes (because of the fact that many of them are...were... my friends) i say "how stupid can you be?". but i think you have to remember that the reason people do this is really to fill a void, and when you first start it seems pretty harmless and soon you're forty and still snorty cocaine! it happens all of the time, and ive had to deal with it happening to people i am close to, and while judgement is natural is such situations, it does not help to solve the problem. america's stability rests partially on it's drug problem right now, and sadly, that means we all must take some responsibility.

Posted: 7/3/04 at 4:55pmdrugs will never go away in this or any other society. the reasons people take them are as varied as the people themselves. in this country drugs seem to fill a perfect niche in the consumer culture. we're obsessed with fame and privilege and are instilled with a ridiculous expectation that things will go our way. drugs provide instant gratification and keep the customer coming back for more, the goal of any business. drugs won't go away until sadness, boredom, and unhappiness do. the key i believe is personal responsibility, harm reduction, and de-glamourizing drugs. who knows, maybe some of the kids who love the olson twins' videos have decided to try cocaine just because they read about Mary Kate doing it. maybe this culture just needs to pick better role models. or maybe our celebrities need to be smarter so they at least don't get caught.
