I absolutely LOVE this movie. It's in my top 5 for sure and I can watch it over and over and over. It's hilarious with a very happy ending so it's my feel good movie. I also think it has a great message. I think my favourite quote is:
Mary: Dean! What are you doing here?
Dean: I'm going to my Prom.
Mary: Mercy House let you guys take the van?
Dean: Well no not really, we sort of led a rebellion and swiped it. You're pregnant?
Mary: I wanted to tell you...
Dean: Our first time?
That's so awesome.
I also love that whole scene at the school entrance.
When I saw the film in the theater, I thought it was fun and cute. But, when I saw it the other night, it really got to me on a much deeper level. Great film.
I loved Saved, Mean Girls was a mediocre, stupid film in my opinion. How can you compare Saved to MG?
Well, clearly those of us who also adore Mean Girls can.
Eh, I love Mean Girls, but Saved definitely wins out.
"I know what you're looking at, Mary. And Jesus does too."
i love that movie.
i love chad faust <3
Which one is Chad Faust?
He plays Dean...he's also on The 4400 and way cute.
He is, as well as Patrick Fugit, I saw Jena Malone in Doubt, and I had no idea it was the same girl from Saved. Is she famous among the younger generation?
Muscle, she's been famous to me for years, and I'm hardly "the younger crowd." She's been playing leading roles in feature films for quite a long time. Check IMDB.
<3
This is one of my all time favorites.
Yeah, Fugit definitely grew up to be HOT in that film.
I love it <3
Roland: Are you okay?
Hilary Faye: No, Roland... I crashed my van into Jesus! Okay? I have a pimple the size of Jupiter! I am NOT okay! This is not how I wanted to remember my Prom. This is not how I wanted to remember my life.
Roland: Well maybe we can fix it... with some glue, or something

I adore MLP in this. She's fabulous as the mom.

Adding to the SAVED love! I think Cassandra might be my favorite, but I love Heather Matarazzo, too...oh hell, everyone's my favorite!
One of my favorite parts in this movie is after they take Hilary Faye away from the crashed van (I do love the "SAVE THE HEATHENS HILARY FAYE" scene where she revs up the van and rages to the Jesus), Heather M.'s character goes and gets the tiara out of the van. I just laugh every time.
Heh, part of the reason my friend wanted to see this and took me to see it was because she loved the guy from Almost Famous. (Patrick)
Anyone has a pic of Patrick to post?
But it's the scene of their performing JCS that he looks amazing in!
I feel very sinful for saying that!!
I do have to say the JCS scene brings up a major flaw in the movie--people who are that devout would never perform JCS. Don't the hardcore Christians think it makes Judas look too sympathetic or something, and therefore have a problem with it?
I've never heard that. In fact, my first introduction to JCS was from the devout Protestants next door who always took me to church with them - they had the album and we listened to it fairly often.
not to bring it down too much as this really is a great, fun film, but it really did hit a bit too close to home. The tone of the piece is fairly light-hearted and it does kind of gloss over the reality that there really are people like Pastor Skip and groups like the Christian Jewels. It's kind of frightening.
I grew up in a church like that with a school like that, God Warriors and all.
I definitely laughed but I definitely cringed a few times, too, because, unfortunately, the liberal sensibilities and leanings of the film win out in the end and that, my friends, is wishful thinking.
Have you seen the trailer for that Jesus Camp movie, bway?
As a Southern Baptist who went to a very affluent church in the suburbs when I was in middle school before attending a private Christian university, this movie definitely struck a chord. My dad hated it on principle because it portrayed Christians in a bad light (even though he has never seen it).
In my opinion, it doesn't do that at all. It portrays people who care more about using their religion to exclude and judge others than using it to spread love. And people like that ALWAYS deserve to be lampooned.
He also argues that no Christian girl would have sex to save her boyfriend from homosexuality. Obviously he hasn't met the same painfully misguided girls I have.
"Us Christian girls have got to learn to protect ourselves. I mean, sure Jesus could restore my physical and spiritual virginity, especially if I lost it to some rapist, but who wants that? I'm saving myself for marriage, and I'll use force if necessary."
