On 27th January 2009 Disney will release a Special Edition DVD of 'Mary Poppin's' to celebrate the classic movies 45th anniversary.
The DVD being released is the same as the one released a few years ago with the added features of 4 specials about the stage musical. So it will be of little interest to most people but to 'Poppins' it will be of great interest.

Yes. We know. There was a post on this already and with lots and lots and lots of responses.
A simple search would have remedied this post.

Posted: 11/13/08 at 10:41pmthe date of the DVD release is just before the new Mary Poppins Tour which begins March, 2009 in Chicago. Good timing on Disney's part.

I love Mary Poppins. One of my all-time favorite films. But...
I'm really tired of the triple-dips going on lately.
I bought the first DVD, with the non-anamorphic transfer, because I didn't know any better.
Then I bought the special 2-disc edition a couple of years ago, enhanced for 16x9. Looks nice, even if the colors are a bit off and Mary and the gang has jaundice.
Now, they want my money again, for the really-really-special-I'm-not-kidding-this-time edition?
No.
If I ever buy this movie again, it will be on Blu-ray.

Posted: 11/14/08 at 1:22pmI hated the awful "enhanced" soundtrack on the 40th Anniversary DVD. Yes, they included the original one, but they encoded it so low, that you have to crank-up your amplifier to hear it. That, and the fact that the idiots who did the transfer, dropped Irwin Kostal's "Buena Vista" fanfare from the beginning of the film!

I love MARY POPPINS, but it's so long, I don't get to watch it more often. I also get tired of the new editions two years after the old. I've taken to reserving the new editions at the library to see the bonus features.

As long as people keep on buying the new editions, they will keep churning them out
The last 2 DVD release is perfectly fine & no need to get another.
