I was there! I didn't sit in on the session (I never sat in on the sessions), but my office was just down the hall from the commentary room, so I would often check out the folks in the building, especially if it was someone I was interested in.
I remember when Matt Damon stumbled into my office, because he kept walking and missed the turn into the room. He just walked right in and said, "I'm lost." I said, "Hi, Matt! Let me show you where to go." And I walked him back to the right room. Matt was there with all of the stars for Ocean's 11 commentary (Clooney, Pitt, Roberts, etc.), so that was a big day at the office.
I also remember Barbara Parkins for Valley of the Dolls (she signed an autograph for me), Sherword Schwartz for Gilligan's Island (I did work on that one), Rosemary Clooney for White Christmas ... many, many others.
So the commentary is absolutely delightful. I'm going to make sure I show it to my roommate this week.
It's funny because when I was a kid, I really hated this film. I was a HUGE Disney freak (still am) but it bored me to tears. And for a kid, a 135 minute live action movie is LONG, even if it is Disney. But over the years I've really grown to appreciate just how amazing it is and why people refer to it as the best film Walt Disney ever made.
I didn't care for the feed the birds number as a kid. Now I love it.
I think that's the greatest song ever written for a Disney film.
I don't know if I would go that far.. but I do love it.
It definitely deserved the Oscar nomination and win over "Chim Chim Cher-ee." I have no idea have that was nominated instead, let alone win.
