Aziz Ansari's new show, Master of None, premieres its first season on Netflix tomorrow, and early reviews are looking good. Is anyone else as excited as I am?

I'm very excited. Cool to see Aziz play a character so different from his stand-up persona.

I don't know that it's that different from his standup persona; he's not exactly an actor of great range. But, yeah, this looks really good. He was on Fresh Air talking about the show today. His parents in the show are played by his actual parents. Apparently, during his Parks & Rec days, Aziz's dad, a gastroenterologist, would corner Parks & Rec producers during events and ask them if there was anyway they could write him into the show. Nice to see he finally got his shot!
It's so interesting how much tv and film have changed. A decade+ ago, this, or shows like Transparent that also blur the drama/comedy line, would have been small indie films that only a few people saw, but now they're on demand tv shows, reaching far bigger audiences.

Yeah, I guess he looked a little more toned down in the trailers. Watched the first two episodes, though, and I'm excited to keep watching.

Finished the series today, and I think it's brilliant from top to bottom. Episode 9 is one of the best episodes of TV I think I've seen in some time.

Halfway through and I don't find it all that revelatory? It seems slightly heavy handed, and I don't find Asari to be a very good actor at all, or even a very engaging actor, and the people he seems to have cast around him are all pretty terrible actors. The whole show feels very stilted to me. I can commend it for having Indian actors represented, but if you take that out of the equation, I don't think it's really all that great?
