Okay, so let America vote New York, D.C. and, to be safe, that rather elitist Los Angeles off the island and see how they fare without them.

Two things:

First, supportivemom, she's worth about $300 million and even their kids are millionaires already, owning part of the family bidness.

Second, Yes, NYC and DC are full of elites. These two cities attract the best and the brightest not only of America, but the world. And no, not all the people who live here and there are extraordinary, but all the extraordinary people live there or here.

I actually do have a cocktail party in Georgetown to go to this evening. I'll be on the lookout for any elitists. I'll want to blend in.

"...all the extraordinary people live there or here."

You can find extraordinary people in the most unlikely and extraordinary places, not just DC or NYC.

WILLIAMS: Who is a member of the elite?

PALIN: Oh, I guess just people who think that they're better than anyone else.

Wouldn't that include right-wing religious nutjobs?

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

coleen_lee - have you read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"? That's the plot - the intellectual "elite" decide to stop creating, designing, thinking, etc. to see how the "regular folks" will get along without them.

Of course, Ayn Rand was a Facist, but she did have a good point.

I prefer the solution offered in "Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy": it is announced that the planet is going to explode, and there are three rocket ships to take everyone toi safety.

In the first ship go the leaders - the thinkers, the scientists, the inventors, etc.

In the second ship go the people who actually do the work - the manual laborers.

In the third ship go the "middle managers" - agents, pencil pushers, people who just takeup space, complicate things and draw a salary.

The third ship is blasted into space... it's occupants are told not to worry, the other two ships will be along presently...
