According to CNN Sen. John McCain would like to have 10 town hall debates with Sen. Obama, one a week (sorry, story not online yet, I will post it as soon as it comes up).
Part of me loves this idea. Obama is an amazing speaker and this is a great way for him (and Sen. McCain) to show the world their ideas. I do love the town hall style debates, giving the microphone to the people, and not just the media.
Part of me sees this as CNN does, a way for McCain to get free publicity.
What do you guys think?
Plus his next sub sandwich is free!
But why is one a week necessary?
Obama won't do this. Obama does well in speeches but not in debates.
McCain does lousy in speeches but better in debates.
McCain is looking for ways to defeat Obama and this idea is a trap.
I don't know, PJ. He was in a different mode with Hillary.
He's not a great debater...but I think he would have the crowd on his side.
I HOPE he's looking for ways to defeat Obama. Cause that's what we're doing!
yeah, I think one a week is a bit much, but one every other or so would be awesome. Get these guys out there, talking to the people, keep the American people engaged and interested in the election.
I think Pal is right; I doubt Obama will go for this.
it's a smart way to get bammy to commit to more than he might have. no way he does 10 in 10 weeks, but if he agrees to 5 it'll be more than most presidential elections have seen. i doubt there'll be more than three.

Not just ten debates, but they must be held before his 8 PM bedtime and after the Early Bird Special ends. And Barack has to speak up! And stop moving around! And no fair taking questions from the internetters.

Lengthier? Hopin peepaw runs out of steam around the hour ten mark?
Very smart. The Lincoln/Douglas debates were not debates. They were a series of long speeches.
Obama could have his speechwriters prepare his remarks in advance.
charlie tried that sh*t bammy and it didn't work then neither, but you'd have learned all about that from uncle frank.
That was the biggest non-answer ever from the Obama camp.
I would love to see them do four of them- one in the northeast, one in the south, one in the midwest, and one in the west.
Obama's strength has never been off the cuff remarks, which is why he wants to do a Lincoln-Douglas style debate.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

That's the right way to respond to Grampy's gambit. "sounds good, kinda busy right now, we'll talk later."
Obama will do fin in one to one debates- All he will really need to do is get someone to provoke McCain and draw out one of his well known meltdowns.
Please ... no more that 3 debates. My attention span does not reach much further ...
I think Bob Barr should be included in any & all town hall events and debates. One of the news services has him polling at around 7% in NC and Georgia.
