So sad that another landmark is lost to "progress"
Aren't we all looking forward to yet another highrise?
It's the last of its kind but it wasn't the only, like singers who could belt without mikes. The era is offically ended.
I'm flying in on Thursday and had hoped to make one last visit there for dinner. How sad.
Landmarks go for any of the following:
1 Bank
2.High Rise
3.Fast Food Outlet
4.Parking Lot
All boons to mankind ( not ) Regretfully, I will never have had a Mc Hale's burger. The moral of this - do not procrastinate

I hate to threadjack but I also hate to start another thread on the same subject.
A while ago someone said Barrymore's (sp?) was closing; the one across the street from Avenue Q.
Is this true?
When is it supposed to happen? Or did it already happen?
It is probably next in the crosshairs
McHales-
That place gave me the heebies. I never understood why anyone liked that place. The Edison is so much better.
The last time I went to McHales there was a piece of hair in my food.
Sadly it seems so SweetQ. Not too sure when.
To Corine
Hair today & gone tomorrow . Guess we are lucky we did not get in Saturday.
ROXY,
That place is gross. I never understood the love for that place.
It was a dump and very affordable but the hair thing (a big blonde hair) grossed me out.

I liked "The Quiet Man" but thats long gone.
Does anyone know why the ENCORE closed? I loved that place.
The bartender was so sweet.
Did they lose the lease? I went there a few times and they had a great Shiraz for 4 dollars a glass.
Such a great place to hang out before a show.
Morosco, thank you for posting the pic.
Just more malling (mauling?) of the theater district.
Corine, why do you feel the need to come into a thread that celebrates the love that we members of the theatrical community feel for McHales with your insipid comments?
Your brand of madness is best enjoyed at a distance, like a car crash or shark attack, how dare you speak badly of a Broadway legend.
Go hobble back to your "Corner" and continue to make a fool out of yourself!!
Box Five-
I'm sorry if you lost your hangout. I never liked the place, but for those who did i'm sorry.
I never like to hear of restaurants closing, even bad ones.
If you had an order of hair in your salad, not sure you would be rushing back.

Yeah, but I wouldn't post 4 times about it.
Broadway.com has an excellent and very sad article on the closing of McHales with quotes from former regulars Patti Lupone, Rachelle Rak and Matthew Broderick.
"I don't know where all of the community will go," Broderick voiced. "Bennigan's is not the same feeling. New York is over. It's very sad. Why is it happening? Does the neighborhood need another high rise?"
"It's a working class bar," LuPone explained.... "And we are all working class stiffs, however much we pretend to be something else. This is a home"....These places are very important [to the community] and sadly they're disappearing," "It's not good. It's not individual. But nothing shocks me anymore about the city. I don't know what's going on here."
Interesting to note - McHales had been there since 1953.
McHales
New York is a little worse off. My Niece worked there as a bartender until she got married a few years ago. We got free drinks so I was sorry to see her go
Sad news indeed. It's unfortunate that so many famous establishments are being forced out.
