The EDISON will be packed. Additionally, they are the nicest people.
I was really sad about the loss of the Encore. Does anyone know why it closed? I loved that place.

IMAGINE THIS:
The Fair Corine bellying up to the bar at McHale's and ordering a Diet Coke with Lim...oh, the image is "Divine"
Barrymores (as well as all the adjoining restaurants) are ALL closing. I believe Sam's got another year out of the deal, but my absolute favorite bar in NY, Barrymore's, will be closing on January 28th.

Does anyone know what Barrymore's is 'turning into?' (for lack of better wording
This is not Disneyfication but the homogonizing of Times Square. It looks like it is becoming a very sterile place along with NYC in general. We are really seeing a good thing go to holy hell
Even the owner of Barrymore's isn't certain what's to become of the space. All of those restaurants will be demolished - but the demolition will happen 3-5 years from now - and that's why it's ridiculous that they are making them close so early.
Those buildings are owned by the Shuberts, and the Shuberts are being very shady about the whole proces. No one is getting answers - but the major MAJOR rumour is that they will be building a new marriot hotel there - with another theatre in it. The other rumour is that Disney will be building their own theatre, but the former seems more likely at this point.
It's really a shame - I'm very upset about it. I guess we have the Shuberts to blame.

I love Barrymore's too!
Their food is so good and plus it's fairly cheap for a NYC restaurant.
Barrymore's is one of my favorite places, I didn't realize it was closing so soon! I ate there only a week ago...
What sense is there building another Marriott Hotel on 45th when there's already one on Broadway? How many freakin' hotels do they need?
Actually building hotels is a good idea. Hotels in this City are all full, but closing Barrymore's is a crime.
Closing Yodo was a crime.
I'm sad.

Greed is good ( not ). The Shuberts need a few more million. What Times Square icon will go next one wonders
It's all about the Benjamins
As a member of NYC and Company and someone who has worked in New York Tourism since 1999, I am happy to hear about the building of more Hotels. Occupancy is at an all time high. Hotels are all at almost 100 percent occupancy and Broadway is having a record year in sales.
But Real Estate is at such a premium and it is hurting small restaurants. The one thing that should go is 5 Starbucks and Gaps on every block. I really wish people would speak up about saving landmark places. If anything ever happened to the Edison I would picket myself.

I can't believe Barrymore's is closing next Saturday. I'll have to pop in this weekend and have a drink... I've had some great times in that bar!
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
It seems like every time I visit NYC something else is gone. I moved 5 years ago and the landscape is always changing. I realize things can't always stay the same, but each time I go back it's like a little piece of my individual history in NYC has disappeared! It's very sad.

First the Saloon, then McHales, now Barrymore's.....

It's so funny, but if I was ever feeling lonely, I always knew I could walk into Barrymore's after a show and see at least ONE person I knew.... where are we all gonna go now? Playwright? Kevin St. James?
It's just not the same...

I remember when Sam's was Charlie's...
Anyone else?
Yes. I loved the salad bar at Charlie's.
Beefsteak Charlie's. The steak was caca but the shrimp and salad bar were very cheap. My date would take us there once in awhile, my Mom hated it.

Sadly all the bars along 8 th Avenue will probably be the next to go
This is so sad. We are losing some great places in Chicago, too.
By the way, Corine. There is not one restaurant anywhere where someone hasn't found SOMETHING in their food that shouldn't have been there. NOT ONE. This kind of thing happens. All. The. Time. Did you know that Salad Bars are the dirtiest things in a restaurant? Think about it. People go to the bathroom, don't wash their hands then touch all the tongs, serving spoons and anything else they can get their hands on. A sneeze guard my keep the snot out of the salad dressing but the fecal matter and urine on some pigs hands are all over your asparagus tips.
If you never ate at a restaurant where someone found a hair in their food (or a piece of plastic, metal,or bug) you would NEVER EAT OUT AGAIN! Oh, and they all have roaches and rodents from time to time, too!
And just think, if you had been able to overlook the hair at McHale's you might have been interviewing Patti LuPone and Matthew Broderick instead of their dressers!
Ahhh! It's lunchtime, Suleen!

I was told Barrymore's is closing the 29th - which is Sunday.
Master, lunch is on me. Wendy's okay with you? Their salad bar is smashing...and the bathrooms are so clean!
