Thanks!
I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

Thanks!

EDIT: It's just the movie right now in L.A. Not that this is a bad thing. But I just watched it the other day (needing an Oz fix). I like the idea of seeing The Wizard of Oz on the 4th of July. It's like multicolored fireworks going off on my TV set! re: Memories of Oz......

re: Memories of Oz......

We used to watch it EVERY year til my mom thought she'd scream. I must say it was fun to curl up on a cold night (I think it used to play around Halloween time) with popcorn and the family around. Ah, memories...

re: Memories of Oz......

Doesn't everyone already have "The Wizard of Oz' on DVD or at least VHS? It's TV airings are not the same events as they were when I was a kid and it only showed once a year on CBS and later NBC.

hemidemisemiquaver! The things you learn on TCM.

And, yes, I have it on DVD, but there's something wonderful about stumbling across it on TV.

Those magical childhood years when it was shown but once a year. Such an event!

Pizza and Oz.

Two of my all-time favorite things in this world or any other!

"Elphaba just melted!"

I HATE it when that happens.

One of my biggest thrills in life was sitting in Margaret Hamilton's dressing room ALONE (at Lincoln Center for a production of Oklahoma!). I was 7 years old, and I asked her how she melted in this film. She was so sweet and told me everything, as if she were saying it for the first time to anyone!

Then I asked her if she would do the witch's laugh for me... because as much as I wanted to believe her, I just couldn't see that this sweet little old lady taking her makeup off was REALLY the Wicked Witch of the West.

So she smiled at me and nodded, and then she did the laugh... Just her and me ALONE in that dressing room.

I will never forget it as long as I live.

re: Memories of Oz......

When you impart beautiful stories like that, it almost melts away my cynicism, B12B. Am I going to have to give up the fight and admit that I actually LIKE The Wizard of Oz?

Kitzy!

*big smooch*

I can't believe that a fellow Kansan wouldn't embrace this film, but it has so much to do with when you first saw it.

I feel as if it's an allegory for my own life! I grew up in the gray Kansas surroundings like Dorothy. I had parents who loved me, but life was safe... and highly ordinary (or at least I THOUGHT so, but now I see just how special and unique it was!). I longed to see what the "colorful" world was like outside of my home.

So when my parents divorced in an emotional "tornado" I was whisked away to New York City and then Hollywood. I've met all sorts of people on my journey in this strange land. Wonderful "characters" who seem to be searching for many things, but mostly brains, heart or courage. And as Judy says in the film, "some of this place wasn't very nice, but most of it was BEAUTIFUL."

And as much as I'm doing well in the big (Emerald) city of Movieland, I do long for a simpler life... like the one I had growing up in Kansas. In fact, I think my partner and I might just end up there again someday. We will have seen and experienced "Oz" in all its glory, but when it comes down to it... there's no place like home.

Maybe you're still struggling to find that "tornado" that will whisk you away? Don't know.

Hey, or maybe you just think the movie sucks!

But for me... it was, is and always will be my favorite film.

re: Memories of Oz......

Lovely thoughts B12B....

I thought this post was for sharing favortie Oz memories. Mine include dressing up as Dorothy for Halloween in Kindergarten and playing with the complete Wizard of Oz doll set (they were about the size of Barbies) and the Witches Castle/Emerald City playset. I can still remember the cool "crystal ball" that would spin with a picture of Auntie Em on one side and Dorothy and her friends on the other.

I was also in a production of The Wizard of Oz in middle school and got my first onstage solo in a show! It made me realize that I had a talent I should pursue. Plus, I made a lot of great friends in that show!

re: Memories of Oz......

AAAAAAH! That's it B12B! I didn't own it, but my best friend did...and I remember she sent her mother on a mad search for the Wicked Witch because she had to have the entire set.....and after all, you can't play Wizard of Oz without the Wicked Witch! We spend MANY hours playing with that toy! (Although, the picture is missing my favorite part...the crystal ball...LOL)
