What one song do you wish you could sing better than anyone else in the world? Why?

Please don't laugh, but "Part Of Your World" from The Little Mermaid. It's just such a beautiful song, and one that I can relate to more than I'd like to at times.

If you could force any one person to live in your basement, who would it be and why?

Nobody. Come on, I've lived in New York City my entire life - if I had a basement, I could think of much better things to do with the extra storage space than forcing someone to live there re: Message Board Celebrity Of The Day (Part III) - Billboard Girl

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Probably the Triple Caramel something-or-other at Ben & Jerry's, although there are lots of other flavors I like. Strangely enough, I'm not a big fan of chocolate ice cream, even though I'm a total chocoholic.

Favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon?

It depends on the time of year. During the summer, I like going to the beach or to a baseball game. When it's not so warm out, I'm perfectly content with staying inside and reading, maybe going out to do a little shopping or get some lunch.

What song would you pick for Adam Pascal to privately seranade you with if you had that opportunity?

I think I'll go with "Always" by Bon Jovi, because I think it would work so well with his voice.

What are your message board pet peeves?

The biggest would have to be people who tYpE LYkE dIS, but in general people who constantly use AIM-speak on message boards and completely don't give a s**t about their spelling and grammar (different from making a few typos here and there) get on my nerves.

What is the most exciting thing you did yesterday?

I didn't really do much yesterday. I went out to get ice cream and sat outside in a park near my apartment for a while - not exactly exciting, but hey, it was a day off from work.

What is the last thing you do before you go to bed?

I go to the bathroom.

How often do you check your e-mail?

At least twice a day - I make sure to do it first thing in the morning before I do anything else online, and I check again in the evening.

Where would you go on your dream vacation?

My dream vacation is a cruise through the Mediterranean. I'm trying to get my parents to agree to do it when I graduate from college.

Do you like your middle name?

I like it, especially the fairly unique spelling (Ashlee), but I liked it more before a certain "singer" best known for being caught lip-syncing on SNL burst onto the scene.

Favorite Starbust flavor?

The pink/strawberry ones. I could probably eat a bag of just those. The red ones are pretty good too, but I hate the yellow ones.

What did you do for your 16th birthday?

I went out with my family and my 5 closest friends from school for dinner at a really nice Italian restaurant in my neighborhood.

Favorite type of gum?

I never really got into chewing gum, probably because I started going to the orthodontist when I was 8.

What was the last song you listened to?

I think the last song I heard on the radio at work today was "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.

What got you into theater?

Starting when I was about 9, my mom would take me to a few Broadway shows every year.

What brought you to BWW?

After seeing Rent for the first time last October and being completely enthralled by it, I wanted to find out more. A search brought me here, and the rest is history.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

New York City, preferably in Tribeca or near Union Square.

What's your favorite color?

Probably pink.

What was the last show you've seen? Did you Like it?

I saw Tarzan last weekend and didn't particularly like it - it had its enjoyable moments, but overall it just didn't work for me.

Are you into any theater related hobbies? (dance, singing, acting, etc.)?

I took dance lessons for a few years when I was in elementary school (I quit after 3rd grade because they placed me in a class with mostly 1st graders due to my lack of coordination) and was in the drama club and glee club from 4th-6th grades, but these days I just sing when I feel like it.

What's your favorite thing about bww.com?

I've been able to get to know people I have a lot in common with beyond our shared interest in theater.

If you were a pair of shoes, what shoes would you be and why?

I would be a pair of comfortable sneakers with leopard-print shoelaces because I'm generally a level-headed person with a wild side that comes out every so often.

If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?

My paternal grandfather (he passed away in 2000), and I'd order Chinese food. Until my grandparents moved to Florida when I was 7, we would go to their apartment every Sunday afternoon and order from the Chinese takeout place around the block for a big family meal. I would love to have the chance to do that one more time.

If we went out with you and your best friend, what story would he/she tell us while you stepped away for a moment?

It would probably be a humorous anecdote from an instance of me being either clumsy or stubborn.

If you were recuperating in a hospital, who would you want in the bed next to you, excluding relatives?

I would want my own room.

What has given you the most pleasure in the last year?

The realization that I no longer have to wait until my parents think of it to do something I enjoy, like going to a show or going out to eat.

What's something that we would be surprised to learn about you?

I attended a prekindergarten program for gifted children but was asked to leave because I didn't stay in my seat.

If your house were on fire, what would you grab on the way out?

If I could only take one thing, it would be my laptop - it's my baby.

If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be?

Whoever you would pick would most likely describe me as smart and funny but temperamental and extremely stubborn, and I'd have to say that's pretty damn accurate.

What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?

I've never been on a plane without my parents, but I do want to travel on my own.

What’s the last great gift that you gave someone? That you were given?

I gave my roommate a box of Godiva chocolates after a fight we both felt bad about. My parents got me a video iPod as an early birthday present.

Who has the best boobs on Broadway? (anyone currently in a show on B-way)

Probably someone in an ensemble.

1- What are your baby names-- for a boy and girl?

The kind of names I would probably come up with for my kids - think unconventional spellings, maybe an apostrophe or two - are a reason it's probably a good thing I don't plan on having children.

2- If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

Japan - I've always wanted to go there to see what it's like, and I might get the chance next spring.

3- What SHOULD you be doing right now, but are on BWW instead?

Nothing, really - the school year is over, and it's still early enough that I don't have to think about going to bed yet.

4- What are you favorite brands on nailpolish to use?

I use what's available at the nail salon and often pick a nailpolish based on the name of the color, but I've found that OPI and Essie are both good brands.

Where is your happy place?

I have a couple of them - the fountain at Washington Square Park, the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, my bedroom back home.

What's your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

I generally find rain gross and depressing, so when it's raining, I like to stay inside as much as possible and avoid doing anything that will remind me of what's going on outside.

A bit late, I know, but congratulations! re: Message Board Celebrity Of The Day (Part III) - Billboard Girl

(by the way, I agree with you on "Part Of Your World." I doubt many people will laugh at you for that!)

Now for the questions - pointless, as usual, but hopefully fun:

What household chore do you find least hateful?

What role in a straight play would you like to see Adam Pascal perform?

If you could be any character (not play, but actually live as the character) in a current Broadway show, who would it be?

What household chore do you find least hateful?

Probably taking out the garbage.

What role in a straight play would you like to see Adam Pascal perform?

I don't have a specific role in mind, but I'd like to see him in a comedy to see if he can pull it off.

If you could be any character (not play, but actually live as the character) in a current Broadway show, who would it be?

Belle from Beauty and the Beast - what can I say, I love the 90s Disney stuff.

Is there anything you regret missing out on during your childhood years?

Absolutely. If there's one thing I could kick myself for, it's that growing up I was always the "good girl" when dealing with my parents, and because I never really tested the boundaries, I often don't know what they are.

If you could bring one show back to Broadway, what would it be?

Aida, so that I could see it live.

What's your all-time favorite pop song? (Yes, you can only choose one. )

Only one? That's just...aaaargh.

After some consideration, I've decided that my favorite pop song is "Beautiful Disaster" by Kelly Clarkson. It's very elegant and understated, yet the emotional imagery is so powerful. Plus, all the different arrangements she's done with it on tour bring out various elements of the song while all sounding very pretty. Sure, it was never a single, but that shouldn't matter.

I often find that the best songs on an album are the non-single songs, although I'm not sure if that generally holds true for pop albums. Either way, I'll download that song and give it a listen.

Well, I've had a wonderful time being your MBCotD, but all good things must come to an end. I put a lot of thought into choosing my successor, and I decided to go with someone known for her wit and off-beat sense of humor, someone who is currently attending the high school I graduated from. Hopefully Marlene is not too busy with collaterals to answer the questions thrown her way...

Thank You! I appreciate the nomination, BBG. (Although my ideal goal of becoming MBCOTD on June 6th, 2006 was shattered 06/06/06!) re: Message Board Celebrity Of The Day (Part III) - Marlene

I don't get a tiara? Offended!!! Actually I don't think anyone has received one lately.

Just got back from a disastrous audition...so here we go!

But I'm in a rather good mood because I have a 700 on my USH SAT IIs! <33333

1. Would you rather be a nun or a prostitute?
Would I be like Whoopi from the sister act? But if I have interesting clientele that won't leave behind nasty presents I think I'd go with the latter.

2. In your house, what is the most 'sexual' thing you have?
My skanky underoos? One Hour Photo? I don't know. The Internet is for porn, so I vote Internet Explorer + Google.com.

3. Have you ever used an eraser for anything except erase?
Haha...yes. They're great to stab at when you're angry, and pretty decent objects in which to cheat with, you know you can write little messages on them, and nonchalantly pass them on, not that I do this....0:)

4. What is the weirdest thing you learned in health class?
Errrrm, that I knew everything already from my mother and watching SATC, I swear...the show is educational!

5. Would you rather swim in the ocean with your best guy friend or your best girl friend?
Whoever can best support me, because I'm not a strong swimmer. But otherwise I'd just whore it out with one of my girl friends by the pool or where the water doesn't cover my head completely.

6. If your significant other jumped off a cruise ship- would you jump too?
Sorry hun, I'd start screaming for help. I'm loud...so someone would rescue him...I hope.

7. If your doorbell rang and you opened up to see a zebra, what would be the first thing you do- (except close the door)
Actually I'd pet it. I love Zebras. Then I'd try to mount it...and take it on the 7 train. Then I would think, wtf was my doorman thinking?

8. If you had to pick, would you rather smell gasoline or flatulence?
Can I just slit my wrists and die? I'd honestly just suffocate to death either way. I can't deal...and I gag easily.

9. Do you enjoy popping bubble wrap?
I did you I was younger. Okay, I still do, so long as I don't have a headache.

10. If you were able to kill either Saddam Huessein or Osama Bin Laden- who would you choose?
Osama, since we have Hussein in maaaax security!

If you were recuperating in a hospital, who would you want in the bed next to you, excluding relatives?
Mel, hands down!

What has given you the most pleasure in the last year?
Free time with those I love. Something I don't get enough of.

What's something that we would be surprised to learn about you?
I was attacked by a monkey while vacationing in Bali in the 2nd grade. Although the statement is true, I'm trying to think of something worthwhile to say. I can be very quite... I know, I'm so unaware of what I do, and what is going on half the time. Until anyone gets to know me, I usually fall into somewhere along the lines of off-kiltered bioooatch. I'm really insecure. (But not all the time...and that would honestly be the last thing anyone would say.)

If your house were on fire, what would you grab on the way out?
My runway fund...it's my life savings in a bag!...though I'm assuming that all living beings have evacuated.

If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be?
That person wouldn't know exactly what to say, and end up contradicting herself. re: Message Board Celebrity Of The Day (Part III) - Marlene And it would be soooo right that it's scary...and I'm be on the floor laughing, beet red. She'd probably say I'm smart, that I'm off beat, bold, really different, loud, that I don't give a cr*p, that I am somehow able to get away with things people don't even imagine doing because I am Marlene, well it would really depend who you are and the circumstances in which you were asking her about me...everyone has to have some secrets...oh and that I'm really obnoxious in a good way...spacey and a bit of a spaz.

What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?
Hang gliding...or walking across one of those really rickety bridges. I have a fear of heights. But I shall overcome it!

What’s the last great gift that you gave someone? That you were given?
The box. I can't tell you what I put in it. It was a lot of personal things. Strange inside joke related things, and meaningful stuff as well. That I was given...errrrrrm...to be honest I think people have gave up shopping for me. It has to be those deep letters, beyond the material, I love long letters, and handmade stuff. :) On the other hand it might have been something I ate and forgot about. I like foooood. re: Message Board Celebrity Of The Day (Part III) - Marlene Probably when someone took me out. I'm honestly not too crazy about presents unless they are something I actually want that I don't have, and that tends to be expensive and/or time consuming.

1-What SHOULD you be doing, but are on BWW instead?
My hw obviously...and reviewing math, so I don't bomb the SATs this Saturday. Studying Physics of course! Being a good little Asian. (Pssssssh. Word of note, I pride my fake Asian-ness.)

2- If you could anywhere in world right now, where would you go?
England...empty lies, whatever did become of our trip to England, mom!?!? And if it wasn't college app time this fall, I would totally pressure my parents to go there. (I need my Idinaness, I needed to mention her somewhere in my responses) But to be completely honest, right at this very moment, unless you could get me places without jetlag, and one of those time turners Hermione has in HP, I'd actually give it a pass. I wouldn't mind to be in Singapore right now, so I could see my new beautiful baby niece!

3- If you had $1,000 to spend on anything, what would you do with the money?
I'd treat certain people to shows and get myself and stella bag from Marc Jacobs...head down to pearl paint and get new supplies. And of course I totally need to get that Rambaldi artifact off of ebay and all that Alias memorabilia, as well as Idina's old Poland Spring bottle!!!

What's one crazy thing you've always wanted to try?
I've always wanted to try and leap across the area where the subway rolls in, in one of the stations that has multiple platforms. I've always wanted to jump off a building on a bridge. Not that I want to die or anything. I just imagine liking the idea of freefall without pain or death. Cage dancing. (Don't ask.) Swimming with sharks.

I think I've sucked like 42 minutes away from the next MBCotD, I apologize, but I was trying to string together some coherent choice last night and I fell asleep. Not because this is a boring procress, but because I only got 4 hours of sleep the night before, 7 hours tonight, say what?

So I would like to take this opportunity to give this title over to Atrias. One of the first members I've had some sort of conversation with when I finally come out of lurk-dom. And it keeps with the trend, we have going here...since I'm an indecisive child, and need to get off the computer and on the subway relatively soon. So have fun reigning on the kalends of June! <33
