Well said Kitz!!

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

BoobsIn our lives we lose touch with some people who we still think about and wonder whatever happen to them....who would be the one person you wish you could hook up with again and why?
That would be my brother who has moved out of state and has basically cut contact with us because of my father. He is very strict and old fashioned, but still a good dad. As family rumor mills go, ours is pretty accurate and truthful and it has been said that he left and won't talk to dad (and by proxy myself) because he has come out but is scared to face my father. We are half siblings and didn't see each other a lot when I was a child. I had always hoped that when we were both adults we could connect and have a sibling like relationship and I hope to one day track him down and do that. He is in law enforcement and thus has his addresss and phone numbers unlisted. I have tried finding him many times and have yet to succeed.

Kitzwe all know you are a big Kevin Smith fan. What is your favorite film of his and why? What is your least favorite and why?
I would have to say Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It combines bits and pieces from each of his previous films and is just silly and funny. It was also the movie that my husband and I went to see on the night that we first started dating (So romantic I know).
Papa i'll put a hold on the sexually explicit pms
But Papa, its my special day, shouldn't I get MORE and not less? message board celebrity of the day (part ii) - kelrel

Beacon 1. What is your favorite sandwich filling? Chicken salad
2. What will be your epitaph? For once she didn't get lost (I have a HORRIBLE sense of direction)
3. What are the last three books you read and which, if any,
would you recommend?
I am in a children's lit class so I promise that my reading level and intrests are a bit more sophisticated. Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and Pi-Shu the Little Panda by John Butler (Thanks Mamie!). I think I would have to recommend Number the Stars because it is a tale of two young girls and their friendship while living under Nazi occupation. It talks about the brave things that people did to protect their friends and loved ones from the Nazis. Pi-Shu is a cute picture book with beautiful illustrations that will make you say, "aww.." with every page turn.

4. Who is your favorite cartoon character? Tinker Bell- cute, funny, fiesty, and helpful
5. What is your first memory? My grandmother rocking me in my room when I was a very small child. She was singing, but I don't know what song. It had to be from when I was about 2 because that is when she died.

Mom- More questions because we are a nosy bunch!!
1, Favorite cookie Chocolate Chip
2, Hero as a child My grandmother- she didn't have any money, she only had a 6th grade education, and had to raise 4 kdis while protecting them the best she could from an abusive husband. She accomplished a lot with very few resources and still mangaged to have a positive outlook on life.
3, Favorite book as a child- If You Give A Mouse A Cookie
4, Way to spend a rainy Saturday- In bed with my husband. I like to curl up with him and watch a movie or just listen to the rain and talk.

Boobs if you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and what questions would you want answered?
God and I would only ask one question and that would be "why?"

Addy how is your brother-in-law doing? Any news?
He is fine, he has been on a little over 30 convoys and has only had one "major" run in. A truck ran over a roadside bomb, luckily it was a poorly made one and it just popped the tire. He laughed it off, but it scared me to death when he told me that. For him that is just daily life, which is scary to think that he has adapted to that so quickly.

Brd- Do you prefer the Oaks or Derby Day?
I am a bad Kentuckian and have never been to the Derby or the Oaks. I did grow up around Keeneland though.
cookie What are your ideal meals? What's your favorite comfort food? Snacks? My favorite meals are my husband's homemade italian or asian food, especially Korean. I could eat Bulgogi, kimchi and yaki every night! My comfort foods are typically baked goods. When I get stressed I typically bake, I guess I feel like I can control how that turns out, even if I can't control what else is going on. To combat the weight hazards that can bring up I usually give stuff to my friends and family or take it to class with me to share and only leave a couple cookies or something like that at home. That or I turn my husband loose on it and let him devour it all. message board celebrity of the day (part ii) - kelrel

Cookie What parts of DC rank amongst your favorite? I love the Mall and the Smithsonians. I could spend hours there just taking everything in. I also LOVE the zoo. I can not wait to get there and see Tai Shan. I love all of DC because of the history that is there. You can turn a corner and find something that helped shape our nation. I am still learning my way around DC so the last time I was there when I went to the Hard Rock I was unaware that it was right next to Ford's Theatre. I went back the next day and toured the house that Lincoln died in, which is right across the street. I love little things like that.

DG- I am still thinking about your question.

Kitz- I was waiting on these...

1. What is your favorite word? Hope
2. What is your least favorite word? Hate
3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Compassion for others and passion for life
4. What turns you off? lack of a sense of humor, we all need a good sense of humor to make it in the world.
5. What is your favorite curse word? I am trying to cut back on cussing so that I don't slip up when I teach, but I guess SH*T
6. What sound or noise do you love? The quiet that you hear in the woods. It is so quiet and peaceful, yet there are all these tiny sounds in the background- birds chirping, water bubbling over rocks in a nearby creek, squirrels scurrying in the trees, etc... it is a very relaxing sound that makes you feel like all is right in the world at least for that one moment in time.
7. What sound or noise do you hate? The whistle from the OBC CR of Sweeny Todd. It makes me jump everytime...
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? I would like to give being a DJ another shot...
9. What profession would you not like to do? Plumber
10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates. Welcome home, your friends and family are all here.

Well I have been thinking about DG's question and to be quiet honest I can't think of anyone in the public eye whom I support wholeheartedly. I think that right now in the social and political times that we are living in that everyone needs to think for themselves and stop listening to the popular opinion. I think that many posters on here have some wonderful ideas and convictions, but I don't know if that is what DG is looking for or not. I can only think of one person and that would be Jesus because of the message of Love that He taught. "Love thy neighbor" is a very powerful message and it is a hard one to follow, but I think that if more people did follow it, regardless of their religous beliefs, if they just had compassion and cared for those around them then the world would be a better place.

Kel...I know you're going to school for education...What would your ideal teaching situation be? Rural, suburban, urban? Grade level? Wealthy or poor district? Very strict or more relaxed?

Wendy, I would prefer first or kindergarten because the kids are still in love with learning and exploring the world around them. I would prefer some freedom with my lesson planning and be able to set up a very hands on classroom where students will be able to literally "grasp" the concept that we are discussing. I would like to teach in a suburban/urban setting and honestly I would prefer to teach in a more at risk school because there you will find the kids who are going to be more apt to "fall through the cracks" and just be passed to get them out of teacher's hair. I want to make sure that those kids have someone they know that they can turn to for help, support, and care when they need it. I want them to also know that they will always have someone who will believe in them and their potential. I want them to know that they can come to be for help from the moment they set foot in my classroom and throughout the rest of their lives.

Kel--sounds like you know what you want to happen in a classroom..which is good for job interviews, since they always seem to ask that. Now, the challenge will be making that happen while dealing with administrators who are only concerned about test scores. It can happen...I see it happening everyday....it's what David Elliot called "Subversive Teaching" (at least I think that's what he called it)...where you put down on paper what they want to hear, and then teach it the best way you know how! Sounds like you'd be a great recruit to our ranks! LOL

Thank you Princeton! I could use a good drink.
What areas do you /do you hope to teach? I want to teach k/1
Why teaching? I want to make a difference in the lives of children. It sounds corny and like a bad 80's song, but children are our future and if we want to make a change in society what better place than in the school system. While you are mandated what you must teach and what your students must know there is always the freedom that the teacher has in how they present the material.
What about teaching is wrong nowadays? Mandated standardized testing. It is a horrible idea and fly in the face of Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. Not all students can prove that they learned something by taking a test. I think that assessment needs to be more flexible.
What do you think about the current state of the arts in our schools? I think that there isn't enough emphasis on the arts. There is a huge push for math and reading and it seems that many are too reluctant to use the arts to help with those areas. Math and music go hand in hand and theater is a WONDERFUL medium to use to help explore the language arts .
What was YOUR favorite subject in school? Language Arts and Theater
Tell us about a teacher who inspired you? Mrs. Fegenbush was a very demanding teacher. She didn't accept anything other than the very best from her students and she pushed them to great heights. She was also a great friend and was always there for her students when they needed her, academically or otherwise. She taught language arts and theater and became a second mom to all the theater students. She is the teacher I want to be.
