Dottie do you take orders for that cake? It sounds marvelously delicious!
I can definitely make a cake with canoli filling. I still have my recipe from school. And what day in June are we talking about?
I should just say ask Addy ...but it's June 28th.
Congratulations, Dottie! I recall you mentioning that you have a love of choral music (as do I)...can you elaborate?
I have been singing all of my life beginning with choir in elementary school. My high school music teacher was very instrumental in furthering my singing. I belonged to a small chamber choir in high school that performed many times throughout the year. We rehearsed constantly (it was if we were athletes of a different kind, with the amount of practice we had). The highlight of that time was our concert tour to India and Egypt during my junior year. I was also a member of the Connecticut All State choir. Ironically a participant in that choir was a future Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast. I used to sing professionally when I lived in NYC and was a soloist for a church in Brooklyn. When I moved to DC a few years ago the singing stopped.
For my birthday 3 years ago, a friend of mine took me to the Kennedy Center to hear the Washington Chorus perform Brahms Requiem. That singular performance flooded me with such joy, that I knew I had to sing again. I contacted the choral director, auditioned and was accepted as a member of this choir. I recently took a leave of absence because I just didn't have the time to dedicate to this group. My experiences with them have been wonderful. Every time I stood on the stage of the concert hall or opera house, I had to pinch myself because I couldn't believe I was actually there.
So, as you can see, I have had a very rich choral life. When people ask me if I prefer solo or choral work, I always choose choral. There's just something about the collaboration with a group of people to make beautiful music.
Dottie, I recall hearing about your mastery with cakes from one of the threads. I still think a 3-D (or D-cubed) Bakery should exist in DC..
And that cake and all of it's variations sound yummy!

Dottie - although I haven't lived there for MANY years, DC remains my favorite city in my heart.
What would you do with a visitor over a 24-hour period to show the best it has to offer?
DG - good question. I'll have to think about that one as there are so many different options in DC.
Congrats to you, Dottie, on your day. Have some French Toast, which is un-haunted by the images of any dead or crazy people.
Congratulations Dottie! (You left the choir? )
"What would you do with a visitor over a 24-hour period to show the best it has to offer?"
- I'd be mighty interested in the answer to that one as well!
Yay Dottie!
And I love your chorus story. Beautiful.
Mamie, yes, I left the choir temporarily.
DG -regarding the tour of DC. I love walking around this city, so the person I'm showing around better have some comfortable shoes on!!
I would actually start off in Old Town Alexandria and make my way back to DC. I love walking around Old Town. On our way back, if my guest wants to stop off at Arlington National Cemetery, we will. I don't visit too often, but once you get past all of the tourists, it's usually a peaceful place to walk around and reflect. There was a very moving tribute to the soldiers lost in this current conflict which featured artist renderings of those soldiers. We'll then walk across the Memorial Bridge and visit the various monuments on the mall starting with one of my favorites, the Lincoln Memorial. Instead of heading to any of the typical Smithsonian Buildings, I would take my visitor to the ever fascinating Spy Museum. Please note that we would have stopped for lunch by now. For pre-dinner drinks I would stop off at the roof of the Willard Hotel (I think). There's a lovely deck on top of the building that offers a wonderful view of DC. For dinner we'd go some place special like, Vidalia.
So that in a nutshell is my walking tour of DC. I also love walking through the residential area of Georgetown as I think a lot of the architecture there is beautiful.
What city in the world would you like to visit and why?
A city I have never been to and would like to visit is either Madrid or Barcelona (which I hope to do this year). I love Europe and the one country I have yet to visit is Spain. One of my best friends is from Spain and I would look forward to seeing his country through his eyes.
What do you look forward to this coming Spring theatre season, Dottie?
(Barcelona is FANTASTIC!!!)
Dottie,
If you were an animal, any animal, what animal would you be and why?
On my way to lunch, will be back to answer your questions.
Thanks again, DD!!
Congratulations, Dottie. Why don't I ask you about your name? I'm sure lots of people would like to know its origin.
Congratulations to a kind, caring, generous man. Enjoy your special day, you deserve it!

Congratulations, Dottie!
If you could have any magical power what would it be--and why?
If you could have one singer croon one song in your honor--who would it be and what song would you request?

What qualities do you look for in a partner?
OK, I'm back -
DD - What kind of animal would I be? Why? I would choose to be a giraffe. I love watching them when I visit the National Zoo. I would love to have that kind of view all the time!!
PJ - The origin of my name - When I lived in NYC, I used to work with a woman named Doris. I called her Dottie for short (I was the only one who was allowed to call her that name). Unbeknownst to her, I used to tell everyone that she used to be a Vegas showgirl. Oh, she had such a colorful past!! During one of my many practical jokes on her, I happened to say, "Dottie, you're so dilusional" Hence, Dottie D'Luscia!
Beacon - Magical Power. For sheer enjoyment, I would choose to be invisible (like the Harry Potter invisibility cape). I would probably use to see a bunch of shows in NYC for free.
Regarding a singer, I'd either pick Audra McDonald or Brian Stokes Mitchell. They could sing me anything they want.
Boobs - Regarding a partner. There as so many traits that I look for, but some of the important ones are: good communication skills, a sense of humor, compassion, good kisser, affectionate and above all they must pass my sleep test!! Sleep test you ask. If I can fall asleep with you in the same bed, you're in! Believe me, it's not as easy as it sounds.
Whew!
I don't have a question. Just wanted to say congrats to Dottie, a wonderful poster.
