Wow, what a wonderful and vivid story Mamie. It takes an eloquent person to get me to long for Kansas.

Mamie...
What a memory and you shared it so beautifully. I could really see it as I read your post.
See...you are very deserving of this honor.

"sorry for the mini-novel"
Mamie, if you keep that up, this will be my favorite day on the boards - that was beautiful!
And welcome to your well-deserved party
OK, my questions:
What was your favorite age and why?
What would you do if you won the lottery?
I will GLADLY pick up the tab for Mamie's party!
Cheers!
LOL - If Addy's buying, I'm drinking!
SOMMS - I LOVE that song! As a lady of the south (ok - not DEEP south, but south anyway) it's like a theme.
DG - The reason for the Jbara thing is simple really. I went through 'the change' a long time ago and I haven't had a working hormone flowing through these veins in a very long time. Despite this, Mr. J. makes me remember what it's like to feel like a girl and I LOVE that! It's also very nice knowing that he is an incredibly good man too. I'm seeing him on Sunday and I hope I'll be able to see the lovely Julie Jbara then too. If so, I'm going to see if I can talk her into loaning him out for birthdays and bar mitzvahs. She could make a bundle! (Thanks for Asta. I love that dog! And a Myrna Loy hibiscus! Who could ask for more?)
Beacon - still working on your questions
Boobs - I used to be a regular over at ATC. There are a few posters over there who are very mature and experienced in the theatre and who's insight is always appreciated. Unfortunately there got to be a few more who were absolutely AWFUL. So bad that I started looking for an alternative source of information on the theatre. Someone there posted a message mentioning BWW and that did it! Imagine my great surprise and joy when I discovered that my favorite poster over there was a regular here - MargoChanning! I occasionally go back there to look for specific information but those times are few and far between. I believe my first post involved the search for the stage door at the Marquis. I was taking my niece to NY for her first visit and we wanted to meet Sutton.
Now - I really do have to get out of here. I'll post more later. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!
Now Margo gets an extra hug for introducing Mamie to this board...I do know how to find Margo too.

Mamie,
More questions:
If you could give one piece of advice to a new poster on BWW, what would it be?
How long did it take for you to find and use the "Off Topic" board. (I was terrified of it for quite awhile...)

What is your ideal breakfast Mamie? Lunch? And Dinner?
OK - my baby's going to starve, but I couldn't wait. Here goes:
If you could have any magical power what would it be and why?
Every time I hear about something going bad in the world, or bad for a particular individual, I go through a little fantasy stage where I think of what I would do if I had all of Bill Gates' money, times 10. I'd be building cities in Indonesia, and one big city in New Orleans. I'd have huge ranches where I'd keep all the wild (and tame) animals in the world who were endangered, or simply had no home to go to. I'd hire those homeless people who live across the bridge in DC and I'd educate all those kids who manage to get through our schools and still can't read the sign on the front of the bus. All fantasies that just could never be. So - what could one person with a magical ability do? Be an angel. If you can't physically help the person who's going through a personal crisis, maybe you can help ease their way. Hold them and let them feel the support, let them sleep at night, let them know they're not alone. As a simple human, you are very limited in what you can do. But as an angel - you can go into to battle fields and slums in India and anywhere else you are needed. And there's the key - you are NEEDED! What a wonderful gift that would be!!!
If you could have 5 BWWers in a life boat with you who would they be...and if one had to be tossed overboard to save the others, who would it be?
This took more thought than any other. When I read it I immediately began thinking of all the wonderful people I've gotten to know on this board. The poetic soul of DG, the love of Addy, the spirit of joy that Boobs provides every day, the grace of Glebb, - and it goes on and on. There are so many more that this could go on all day. And that's the problem - there are so many more that I don't know anything about. I could be tossing out a perfect diamond in order to save a beautiful emerald. And who wants to do that? The only thing I am sure of - the first one out would be me, because I do love my emeralds so much! LOL.
If bagel toppings: what do you prefer?
Butter AND cream cheese. And believe me - I show it! I recently re-joined weight watchers and I could knock you on your slats for that question. Now I'm starving again…..
What was your favorite age and why?
23. I was finally COMPLETELY out of that uncomfortable, awkward, gawky stage and was at the peak of health, looks, confidence. I honestly believe that women at that age OWN THE WORLD! There is no limit to what you can do - except those limits you put on yourself, of course.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
Pay off the mortgages on my brother and sister's homes. Buy a home for my youngest sister and her family. Get myself a small condo - in New York City. After that, I'd probably give it all away.
If you could give one piece of advice to a new poster on BWW, what would it be?
Don't take things people say here too seriously. One thing the Internet does is it gives you the ability to shoot from the hip - without worrying about the consequences. People - even very good people - will do this a lot. So will you occasionally. It means no more when they do it than it does when you do it. Having said that, for my personal benefit - TRY not to do it! There used to be a golden rule that all children were taught - very early in life. It said "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." It simply means treat others with CONSIDERATION. Do this on the net, do it when you go to the theatre, do it when you go grocery shopping, do it whenever you meet another human being. Their world and yours will be a happier place for it.
How long did it take for you to find and use the "Off Topic" board. (I was terrified of it for quite awhile...)
Honestly - I didn't know there was an off topic board until I went to look for one of my posts and it was gone. I had no idea what happened to it so I posted that question and….they told me! If there's one place you don't need to be afraid, it's the off topic board. You simply can't go wrong there.
What is your ideal breakfast Mamie? Lunch? And Dinner?
Breakfast is my favorite and I like toasted bagels and cream cheese (see above) and fresh fruit. Maybe a piece of cheese would be good too.
Lunch - soup. I love soup and I eat it all the time. I love to make huge pots of soup and then freeze it so my freezer is always full. That and a slab of home made bread is heaven!
Dinner - Salads. Big salads with lots of different veggies and fruits. I love Ken's fat free raspberry pecan salad dressing and I think I eat these salads just so I'll have something to put the salad dressing on!
I'm not a big fan of meat but when I do, it's simple. About once a month I get a hamburger craving.
Mamie, your life boat answer is one of the most beautiful posts I've ever read.

Mamie - I think you are, in ways you may not even realize.
And I agree with Addy about your boat answer - I had tears in my eyes, and then absolutely guffawed at the thought of you hurtling after that Emerald!
Your answers reveal such a wonderful spirit about you, Mamie. Thank you for sharing that with us!
Congratulations, sweetie.
If I knew how to send pink flowers in this post I would.
Merry Mamieday! Congratulations on your coronation!
Miss Holly heard that Mamie likes Asta.
She says, "I'm MUCH prettier than that old cur."
Mamie, will you share with everyone a little bit about the beautiful work you have done as a Chemo Angel?
Do you plan to continue the program, or wait a while?
