I've got to run, but want to leave this at the top.
Mamie, it was beautiful sharing today with you, and I'll look forward to what might appear in the night written by the nightowl
Thank you for what you bring to us here in BWW, and the world in general. They are both elevated and blessed by your presence.
Well, of course the silly story doesn't compare to THE BOOK(haha I wasn't quite sure what to refer to it as...) I feel honored to have glanced at it.
I think what makes the playbill story great though is the fact that a month later, in funny stage door stories, someone wrote that she was there once w/ a woman who complained about getting John Lithgow's autograph That was just funny.
Oh, here's a little tidbit story I can share. At the DC get together at Hard Rock Cafe, Mamie got...umm...gems/rocks(this is why I don't tell too many stories)...for everyone, anyway they were beautiful and Mamie explained how they were signifiers for good luck. I still have my blue one, stays in a safe pocket in my purse and goes everywhere w/ me
When I talked about the book (above) I mentioned that one of the autographs was Margaret Leighton's. She is one of the 'passing angels' who would have celebrated her birthday this month. I would like to mention this post if you would be interested in seeing Ms. Leighton and the other ladies born in February.

Thanks for that thread - and the January one too. What lovely ladies; each made her indelible mark.
Mamie - is there any one thing in your life you wish you'd done differtently - or not done at all?
Absolutely. Many things I regret but the biggest is falling into that very old trap that's been the curse of the oldest daughter in Irish Catholic families since the beginning of time. You are raised (with a great deal of love and affection) to be the alternate mother to your younger siblings. I spent my life working and caring for them. Today they all have big families and I have none. It never bothered me until the last few years and now it bothers me a lot. If I had the ability to go back in time, while maintaining the wisdom of today, I would never let it happen.

I completely understand! How many siblings do you have?
No questions, but I'm really happy that Mamie is the MBCotD. She's extremely nice and always willing to listen. Helped me out when I was having a very angst-y moment. :)
Congratulations, Mamie! You've added so much to the board, especially the Greg Jbara love thread! I always enjoy reading your posts! .
Mamie, congratulations! What a delight to find you named. You were my first friend on the board - you are always compassionate and reasonable and fair, and those qualities make you shine. I've been reading your stories and drinking them in - what a storyteller you are! You are still, deep waters with stars reflected on the surface.
Just three. But I was older than all of them and baby sat 2 of them when they were babies. Sometimes it feels like I've always been taking care of them! They're all good people and now I have 8 nieces and nephews and 2 great nephews. (Or is it grand nephews?) Just none of my own.

Mamie, it's very clear that your warm and loving maternal gifts have been showered on many. How nice to know that you are a walking blessing to others!
(sneaking in a hello to justthefacts)
Mamie... that's a common occurence in my land as well. It must be a catholic thing in general.

Mamie, I just got on the board a little while ago so didn't see this until now, but what a beautiful and delightful surprise to see you as today's honoree! Nobody deserves it more.
Having read your wonderful stories and having met you through our PM's, I can honestly say that you are truly one of the loveliest, kindest and most generous people I have ever met. A toast to Mamie: May she always have all of the red convertables, emeralds, wheat fields and bagles with butter and cream cheese that she could possibly want!
Mamie, if you want a big, loving family, you've found one. Right here.

Grizzabella - beautifully said, and I second every bit of it!
I think you're right, DD. Of course my mom was one of 12 kids in her family and her mother had to raise her kids that way or she would never have survived all those kids! And you do things the way you're taught (or the way you observe).
It's OK though. Maybe next time around?
I just posted this for all the good guys over at the Greg thread - but it fits this group just as much!
Mamie, that group hug is great!! and was very muchly needed tonight!
I understand your position exactly, Mamie, but please don't burden yourself with regret. Do you see how loved you are here? Something tells me that happens to you everywhere people get to know you.
(And hello back, Bluemoon!)
Sending night love to Mamie.
Congrats Mamie -
My two beasts also send their love and congrats to you.

I love them fuzzy babies!
Thank you all so much. I am truly humbled by all of this. I just hope I can get this swelled head out the door tomorrow!
Grizzabella, that was beautiful and perfect.
Mamie, you said "next time around" Is it okay if I ask you what he/she will be like? Mine will be a red-haired boy who can speak Irish.
Not a clue hon. Remember what I said about hoping to retain a little of what I've learned over the past? Well, one thing I've learned is not to set guidelines or restrictions. Don't identify a 'type'. Keep your mind and heart open to ALL possibilities. There's a whole big world of wonderful people out there - one of them just might be perfect!*
*OK - some restrictions. No criminal types, no abusers, no bullies, no drug addicts, no animal tormentors, .... OK - a LOT of restrictions I guess!
Mamie, I love you more than Greg and Tom love to have weird and random conversations.. which they really don't they're all made up by Barb.
Yeaah.
LOL - oddly enough, I understood every word of that message. I don't think too many others here would though!

Mamie, I truly believe that God often puts us where we're needed most, and your beautiful light shines in many dark places. There is always a reason.
And being a Mom to the fuzzy folk is a worthy calling to!
