papa, who was your favorite "Eastland Girl" on the hit 80s sitcom The Facts of Life?
jo, of course.

I'd have thought Natalie. Interesting.
So you have been getting questions via PM, too? That happened to me. Why do you think the people didn't want to post their questions on the board? The ones I received were pretty tame.

Maybe because you two are polarizing individuals and that didn't want the stigma of associating with you attached to them?
mine have all been disturbingly graphic sexual overtures disguised as queries. which of course i relish. if i say of course once more before 1pm someone slug me.

papa, I asked you quite nicely not to mention my PMs to you.
good lord, i had forgotten those. i'm sorry, kringas. if it's any consolation, i was talking about someone else.

papa - what's your stand on the association of Christian ideology and the Republican party, both as a general concept and as it's represented currently?
Chili papa? Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday!! Maybe someday we can have a cook off? I may come off as a mild mannered mom, but I can (and have) made a chili that made grown men cry!
sounds like a plan, mominator. i've been known to go a bit overboard with my chili leaving myself fearing the throne.
dg, i think that it's unfortunate that much of the worst of the radical christian idealogy is accepted as being the domain of the republican party. but the gop courted them, knowing that the implications of their decision. i tend to disagree with the conventional wisdom that pat roberston and jimmy dobson are running the white house, but it's clear that their views (even the worst of them) do get a hearing at high levels. i think that faith in a politician is an important quality. that said, i'm not for governing from the bible.
there is a very real need for separation of church and state, for me it's more pragmatic in that i don't want some religions to have power, so therefore it's best that none do. however, i do think that sometimes the separation of church and state morphs into oppression rather than separation.
while the gop is portrayed as the party that panders to religion (and often accurately so), i don't see too many democrats at the national level coming out too forcefully against beliefs that, while anathema around here, are held dear by a great many christians out there. the fact is that there's a lot more belivers in this country than there are non-believers, and not just christians, and no one can seriuously imagine winning a national election without courting them in one way or another. the gop has just done it in a rather ham-handed fashion.

what a sweetheart you are, moonie!
since i have the bully pulpit of the mbcotd thread in which to do it, let me say a few words about the student board.
here is a marvelous resource that has been handed to the students posters of bww. a place to share common experiences, to explore life experiences as you go through the same times together. what a lucky thing to have!
i know if i were a student, i'd be spending most of my time there rather than hanging out with a bunch of old farts on the ot board.
i'm serious here. look at the opportunity being handed to the student posters: their own place. they can define it any way they choose. they can develop a group dynamic or allow their own individual idiosyncrasies to carry the day. but they are the ones to choose. no adults are running around telling them what to post or how to post or when to post, it's all up to them.
i think it's an incredibly generous gift that's been handed to them that's being underutilized.
thus endeth my mbcotd public service message for the 8 o'clock hour eastern standard time.

papa, I just knew there was a reason you have the reins for an entire weekend! :o)

i love the student board....i had a cool discussion w/ a young hs student who was featured in a ny times article about 'supersized hs' theatre programs.
looking forward to hanging w/ you and the mrs., papa.
Papa, god knows I disagree with your politics but I did want to pop in and say that it was great reading your responses. I'm just sorry the Pubs gotcha.
Then again, if that party were run by more people like you (than those who fall somewhere along the ideological lines of Falwell and Robertson - who might not be running the party but they sure push it in the wrong direction), this country might be an even better place for its people.
Papa I hope you had a great weekend as MBCotD. Have a great day hon!
Papa, you have been a supurb CoW!
BTW..Has it been officially determined if today, being a holiday, is considered part of the weekend? Or does the crown get passed at 10 am?
i was gruffly informed that should i not pass the tiara at 10am i would be suspended for one year, my ip addresses banned from accessing the site and my first born male child would be sold into indentured servitude to pick up and slack from advertising revenue.
there's more of us than you know, bway. we just don't get much atttention because doing so might in some way humanize the dastardly republican party.
Ciao, Papa, as you prepare to pass the torch but never the buck. (The buck stops somewhere between your fullest of hearts and your equally full head, which is true of too few at this sacred site.) I'm late to this celebratory party, and have no questions for the man who is nothing if not full to the brim of answers. I salute your wisdom, candor, true grit, and courage under friendly fire ... oh, and hope when the bad times hit ya yard, you put on Roz Russell (NOT Dona Murphy or Brooke Shields) singin' "Ohio."
aww, auggie, yer a heckuva guy. who else could it be but roz? although, i'm usually more partial to neil's ohio.
Well, damn you, Papa. You should be more vocal instead of the "Sanctify heterosexual marriage people before God sends us a Tsunami" folk.
I'd be alright with the Republicans trying to hoard all of our money if it weren't for those persnickety social things.
c'mon, bway, which is gonna get the headlines?
"republican preaches tolerance"
or
"republican says the smiting of gays and democrats is imminent"
