PalJoey asked what my screen name is about, and I wrote this nice, long answer and then my computer suddenly died.

The gist - Type_A_Tiff is supposed to be "Type A Tiff", like someone with a "Type A" personality. It's a psychological term that describes someone who's neurotic, bossy, a bit of a control freak, always making lists and constantly on the run, which pretty much describes who I was before I signed up here and became "Type B(WW) Tiff". (I spend my limited time away from the computer getting caught up, and then become type A again.) I've had so many people ask me, "What happens when I type a Tiff?" and my eye twitches a bit. I get asked even more whether my name is one of the words in my username - I say yes, my first name is Typestra!

I do like Ms. Chow, DG, and I voted for her party in the recent election. I was actually about to go off right this minute and send individual PMs to everyone but now you've beaten me to the punch! She symbolizes everything I hope to be as a political model - a visible minority (Chinese female, no less!) who beat the odds after some hardship and won over her riding. She's managed to balance a family life and her career with grace and aplomb. So you made an excellent choice.

More questions! I have to answer them in order or else it cracks my sh!t up!

brdlwyr asked why I want to go into law school. Funny you should ask that because I'm just in the midst of trying to make a February 1 deadline for some of them, and I've got 3 .doc files open.

The short answer is because I love it, I want to be able to make a positive contribution to society, and I like the challenge of balancing logic with diplomacy (since the two don't always mix).

The long answer is this, which I've cut and pasted from a personal statement:

My decision to go into politics or law was determined during my term as an Immigration Officer at [my city's international airport]. By far the most rewarding job I have had, my responsibilities included examining foreign nationals entering the country, processing new permanent residents and refugees, interpreting and enforcing the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act, and liaising with attorneys and clients. Every day was challenging, stressful, and emotionally and mentally taxing, but I thrived on it. After reading countless refugee case files outlining the worst of humanitarian atrocities, the reward – and the memory I cherish most – was giving refugee newcomers their status as permanent residents of Canada, and seeing the joy on their faces as they embarked on new beginnings. I decided then that if I were to pursue a legal career, it would be to serve as a voice for those in the local or international community who are in need of advocacy and social change.

Well, my favorite pair of shoes are my pointy-toed black stilettos (the dream would be Choo or Manolo, natch!) and I suppose they best describe me (and hopefully my future law career!). They look simple and plain on the outside, but if it digs into you, you'll sure as hell feel it! Plus the inside of its weapon is hollow...and...might break easily...wait a minute...
