I dunno. A lot the details of his on-camera interviews rubbed me the wrong way, like referring to himself in the third person, which his old college buddy, in an amusing moment, pointed out as something he’d been doing for a long time, adding that it’s always been obnoxious.
And then his gross “If straight people don’t have to come out as straight, why should I have to come out as gay?” logic when he reveals going public with his sexuality happened by accident instead of more tactically, as he’d wanted – cut a few scenes later to him giving an emotional acceptance speech about courage and being who you are.
He also just comes off like kind of a dope – as you say, a dumb jock – when he’s not scripted and then as a very elegant speaker when he is scripted. These things, I thought, added up to a pretty unflattering portrait that I couldn’t blame on editing. He’s also got an enormously unwarranted ego about his playing, which isn’t atypical of top-level college athletes, but maybe you’ll want to see if you can get a few years in the NFL before talking a big game about your actual performance.
And, yeah, I’ve seen a lot of “Super Soul Sunday.” She’s as vapid as she’s ever been. Her addiction to “quotes” makes me gag. Even when she manages to have a good guest on, she immediately sabotages the conversation when it begins heading in an interesting direction. Stupid people have a knack for that.
