The First Lady's group is said to occupy 60 rooms. A posh hotel, $3,000 to $6,000 a night.

You know that it was said that it was a vacation with her best friend, since she didn't get to go to the best friend's father's funeral. And who cares? People go on vacation all the time; why can't she?

Moochelle Obama. You compare her with the hated Sarah Palin. Moochelle Obama keeps a personal staff of 24. Now we know why: To administer to gynecologist friends whose fathers pass away. Her personal staff includes a makeup artist and a hairstylist, a total annual government salary of more than $1.6 million for the personal staff of Moochelle Obama, plus their travel expenses. Her Secret Service for security is extra on these trips...

But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing summer sojourns - or forgoing them altogether - the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends." According to CNN, the group is expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times.

Reports are calling the lodgings of Obama's Spanish fiesta, the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella, "luxurious," "posh" and "a millionaires' playground." Estimated room rate per night? Up to a staggering $2,500. Method of transportation? Air Force Two.

To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.

Why would the Obama's spend the money here in the United States of America? The economy could use the money.

While I was not crazy about her timing for this vacation, all of the upset about taxpayers' money, while some was spent, may be a bit overboard. Government workers (Secret Srvice, etc) are "charged" rates much lower than what we pay to stay in a hotel both here and abroad. So it probably wasn't a kings ransom, and I doubt that they stayed in rooms as nice as Michelle's (Which she paid for herself)

Spain's unemployment is pretty high and some believe on the brink of economic collapse but unless there's a good Spanish speaker that can translate the tabloids and blogs of Spanish politics, there is no criticism that I know of about the cost and timing of Spain hosting foreign dignitaries and political figures whether its their King or PM (Egads, they have both! The costs!).
