There isn't any such thing as "The Atheist viewpoint."

There are many different atheists, many different humanists, with different points of view.

What's interesting is that Billy Batson and Mentor (aka Kirk Cameron and "Friend") were the ones claiming to have "definitive proof" of the existence of God. And for this they showed a painting and a crocko-duck.

Though the people who mumbled and behaved like juveniles may have turned you off with their style, the fact that Kirk and Co suggest that one being created the countless complex physiological systems of the species on this planet DOES beg the question, where did THAT being come from? Because THAT being would have to be more complex than the countless species it created? It's a good and logical question, one generally answered with the cop out: "Faith."

I thought the cop out answer was "big bang?"

You thought wrong.

How is the big bang a cop out?

There's actual observational evidence to support it. Not a rejected photo from The Island of Dr. Moreau.

I've just slogged thru and hour and 45 minutes of the 20/20 special on "faith." John Stossel was reduced to asking "How you know there's NOT?" as his response to an atheist man asking "How do you know there's a God?"

Coming up next, "The Secret."

Calvin - it was a joke...that comes from someone that I heard speak (not sure if I was fortunate or not...)

It went something like "If the Big Bang happened, who put those molecules, etc. there? And what put whomever put the molecules there? And who put whatever put whomever put the molecules there." And it goes on....

It's quite a brain teaser and I don't think the human mind was made to fathom such an issue. Maybe that's the way whoever or whatever put us here makes sure we never learn the secrets of the world. Updated On: 5/11/07 at 10:58 PM

And yet the people who use that circular argument refuse to answer who or what created the creator they "know" by "faith."

It's exactly that fact that Kirk Cameron and Mr. Comfort stumble over in the UNEDITED version of the Nightline debate that a member of the Rational Response Squad shot with a hand-held camera from the audience and that you can find on YouTube. It's funny that ABC and Martin Bashir didn't include THAT in the official version.

Ah, sorry, Bso, my sarcasm detector was off. re: Mike Seaver Will Save Your Soul Was it Kent "Dr. Dino" Hovind? Absolutely legendary in making horrid agreements in support of dinosaurs living at the same time as people, the earth being 5,000 years old and all that other young creationist rot. There are numerous Web sites set up to debunk him -- because as much as it is nonsense, he's an effective speaker and can easily influence the small-minded.

Except now I think he's in jail for not paying taxes or something like that.

(he was also on Ali G in the infamous episode where he asked the guests who left a floater in the toilet) Updated On: 5/11/07 at 11:07 PM

It's OK. The joke wasn't that funny.

But it IS funny that you bring up dinosaurs. Somehow we discussed this at a party. But I don't quite remember what was said - as it was a PARTY. Who knows - we could have solved this mystery! (OK, so maybe that isn't funny either...)

It's an unanswerable question - the people of faith have no answer and there is no scientific proof one way or the other (before the Big Bang, I mean). I personally believe in a mix of the two. But that's just a feeling...and means nothing.

Well, there's scientific proof of natural selection, and there's scientific proof that the earth is more than 8000 years old. So there's two things that many vocal fundamentalists simply ignore.

It's all Evilution, to quote Matthew Harrison Brady.

I wonder if Captain Kirk has seen INHERIT THE WIND...
