Anyone see this one-episode show from the writer/creator of Absolutely Fabulous? It's hilarious.
Jennifer Saunders plays an aging chorus girl who is trying out for Angela's Ashes: The Musical. Julia Sawhalla (Saffy from AbFab) is a RADA trained working actress, and Joanna Lumley (Patsy on AbFab) plays Jackie Riviera, a 70s showgirl with a 3 note range.
The audition for Angela's Ashes is PRICELESS!
I am the biggest AB FAB fan ever!!!!!!!! I haven't heard of this new show?! When/what time?
it's not a new show. It WAS going to be the new show, but Jenn scrapped it to do the 5th season of AbFab instead. The Mirrorball pilot episode is in the special features of the 5th season DVD.
munk- oh you MUST see it!
It was done in 2000 and it's on the 2nd to latest DVD collection of AbFab- not the latest series w/ Saffy and the "Chanel of babies" but the one before it. It's on the special features section.
You will LOVE it! J. Saunders described the show as AbFab with different hair color. It's all about actors in the West End. One classic scene:
West End Swing: Oh ****, I'm late for Whistle Down the Wind!
Jackie: She must know every small part in every musical in town.
Vivenne: Yes, but let's not forget that she once took the stage as Little Orphan Annie still blackfaced as One Guy Named Moe.
AMAZING.

Jennifer Saunders is a genius.
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS is the greatest thing that I have EVER seen.
I could recite the entire episode of "Poor", if you would like. It is THE best episode of AB FAB.
My favorite AB FAB moment is when Patsy is yelling at Saffy, telling her she should have been aborted. I was literally CRYING with laughter. It's the greatest TV show EVER - with STRANGERS WITH CANDY in second place.
Mirrorball is ok, but doesn't come close to AbFab. I think the idea to scrap it was a good one.
I tried to watch Strangers With Candy. I failed to see the attraction. It's like a bad SNL skit that went on too long.
I love it!! "Ab Fab" is my favorite, and perhaps one of the most well written shows in television history. Jane Horrocks, another RADA trained actress is in the Mirrorball episode, too. I love Mirrorball, but nothing can ever come near Ab Fab. I tried to get into "French and Saunders" but I wasn't a big fan of Jennifer's acting and it was just, eh. I love Jennifer's writing and singing though (especially in Shrek 2) and she's one hell of an Edina.
Edit: Joshua-"Poor" is the best Ab Fab episode, ever! It's my favorite. "Doorhandle" would probably be after that. The second and fourth seasons are my favorite though, but I love them all so it's so hard to say.

I have to agree with Joshua - POOR is my absolute favorite episode! I also really enjoyed MIRRORBALL.

I would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite episode of ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, but it may be FRANCE.
"Somebody's taken the steering wheel!" LOL
LMAO the France episode is so genius. The wine tasting scene is amazing. "After 8 hours in that car with you Patsy, the local pissoir looked rather gorgeous, but this..."
Another fave: "Listen to mummy's funny voice doing that one again sweetie, Bombay Mix!"
Also, The Last Shout is hilarious. Eddie seeing visions of hippies as she's skiing, and Patsy going around and around on the ski lift drinking champagne...
I searched the internet for AGES to find out what that song is at the start, as Pasty walks out of her flat/Oddbins and into the car. It's "Today's My Day" and apparently there was an EP of a few songs this singer did for AbFab.
I'm partial to ORGY.
Absolute Genius.
Hahaha the end of "Orgy" is classic- when we see Eddie half-unconscious and lying by herself while the orgy is going on around her.
FORTY will always be my favorite AbFab episode.
