re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

According to statistics, the service industry is number 1 (as in most places,) and number 2 is ammunition manufacturing. So, everyone stop buying lattes and bullets re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

I wonder how many of those theaters are unionized. And I wonder if the performers there have strong enough community to have a walk out. Hurt the tourism.

This has potential - a large scale international meeting - could draw press if demonstrations were present.

It's at the St. Louis World Trade Center.

Please join us for the region’s largest international business event of its kind, Growing Global 2004.

Growing Global is World Trade Center Saint Louis' signature event and the region's premier luncheon. The program was created in 1997 to provide a regional forum for addressing timely international business issues and how these issues will impact companies' decisions to grow globally.

This year's event will take place Friday, September 10 at the Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis (Grand Ballroom) from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The reception held just prior to the luncheon is targeted to high-level executives and government officials and is recognized within the region as a high-energy, top-level networking opportunity. Attendance is expected to be in excess of 450, drawn from the region's international business community.

BWayGuy2 - I understand your frustration and anger, but it's that type of generalization that allowed these people to vote the way they did.

Especially, because technically, Missouri isn't part of the South. It's in the middle.
(& it was part of the Union during the Civil War.)
It's hot and it's monotonous. I want my glasses.

re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

This whole thing just chaps my butt!

What are they (Missouri) afraid of? How does it DIRECTLY AFFECT them?? No one has been able to answer my question when I ask some who is opposed to gay marriage.

Besides why would I want to be a part of something that 50% of the married population spends trying to get out of???

re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

Bobby - Here's the reason, as I see it. People who have chosen to use religion to overcome their fear of the unknown (primarily death) NEED to keep their foundation intact, or else they are left trembling and alone in the dark. Through the years, so much of what has been espoused by Christianity (ie-the role of women) has been eroded away. They are left clinging to what they can to bolster their belief system. This whole gay issue isn't really just about the 'act' itself, but also exists as a litmus test of the validity of the choice to use religion in this way.

As I said earlier, we may eventually reach a point where the reasoning capability that we possess outweighs our inate fear - but that day isn't today. In the meantime, we as gay people are simply caught in the crosshairs as humankind struggles to move past the need for mythology.

Well, again, the fight is still REEEEEALY young. I too hate the south (born and raised Texan-boy here, so don't start with me). But I can reconcile that by the fact that this will NEVER EVER be a Federal decision - it will be a state issue. Screw Missouri. Let them lead the way in discrimination - and when this country SOMEDAY evolves in the same way we did with civil rights in the 60s, let Missouri receive all of the blame and negativity it will so rightly deserve.

And while this fight is something to which we will all have to contribute for the rest of our lives, the stupid a$$holes that are pushing for these amendments are NEVER really going to acheive what they REALLY want -- they are never going to take away my happiness and joy. Living well is the best revenge.

re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

And now that I'm rolling....here's a few fun tidbits that the bible-beaters tend to leave off from their sermons:

Women are inferior to men: "A man is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man." (1 Cor. 11:7)

Women are weaker than men: "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner" (1 Peter 3:7)

Women should be silent in church: "As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches." (1 Cor. 14:34)

Women must not have authority over men: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man." (1 Tim. 2:12-14)

Women are saved through bearing children: "But women will be saved through childbearing." (1 Tim. 2:15)

Women must cut their hair off if they don't cover it: "If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off." (1 Cor. 11:6)

The sight of crap turns God away: "Cover up your excrement so that God will not turn away from you." (Deut. 12-14)

A burning bull carcass is a pleasing odor to God: "The priest is to burn all of the bull on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the Lord." (Lev. 1:9)

God awoke like a man from a drunken stupor: “Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, as a man wakes from the stupor of wine.” (Psalm 78:65)

A man struggled with and overcame God: "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome." (Gen. 32:24-2re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

God searched the animal kingdom for a partner for Adam: "So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found." (Gen. 2:20)

Abraham ate pancakes with God: "The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees ... So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said, "get three seahs of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread." ... While they ate, he stood near them under a tree." (Gen. 18:1-re: Missouri passes same-sex marriage ban

God threatened to force disobedient people into having adulterous sex: "This is what the Lord says: "Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight." (2 Sam. 12:11)

God killed a man for failing to get his brother's wife pregnant: "He spilled his semen on the ground. What he did was wicked in the Lord's sight; so he put him to death also." (Gen. 38:9-10)

Forgive my rant - I'm done for now.
